I've got a problem. I love doing theater for my HS, because it's a lot of fun, I love the director, I love theater, and (I won't lie) the attention of being on stage is pretty cool. My HS does 4-6 shows a year, and I would love to be in one of them. However, I'm at a loss because I really piled on the activities/projects/AP classes this year, and I decided that I needed to drop SOMETHING so I could sleep. I think it'll have to be theater as it is a huge commitment (20 hours a week/5-7 weeks a show/I do 2-3 shows a year).

I am not that good in drama (not good enough to get leads, but medium roles), and I have no intention to study it in college. Would colleges really frown upon it if I maybe take a break from doing shows for a while, if it's not my main activity (even though it does take up a lot of hours)?

I don't think any college will frown on you. I'm planning on majoring in theater, so obviously I would advocate dropping something else lol, but I don't think it's a big deal.

Maybe you could do stage crew or usher box office or something just so you remain somewhat involved, but don't have to be there for rehearsals?

I don't think stage crew would be less of a commitment than acting, if you want to be dedicated to it, but maybe you could wait and get into the flow of the year, and then decide on whether or not to do the plays once you get to that point? I don't know why you'd drop theater completely; maybe just cutting down on the number of shows, or taking smaller parts so you have more time for homework during rehearsals. I know at my school, most people's work gets better during rehearsal season, because they're stuck at school while others are rehearsing and have nothing better to do.
