Well, I got into Bowdoin, Cornell, Brown, and Virginia, and after visiting them all this past week, I’ve narrowed it down to Bowdoin and UVA (yes, these are completely different schools). I was wondering if you guys could give me some insight on the positives and negatives of the school, and possibly sway me in a certain direction. The deadline is a little more than a week away, so any help would be appreciated.

BDaws- sorry, I can't help with that, but my d is deciding between Bowdoin and Notre Dame. She'd appreciate insight as well!

Here ya go:

Pros about Bowdoin
- Awsome Food, honestly its damn good.
- Professors are really enthusastic about what they teach and will go out of their way to help you succeed.
- Bowdoin is known to be a feeder for top graduate schools.
- Bowdoin's housing is nice, not to mention their are new frosh dorms being built.
- Plenty of parties.

Cons about Bowdoin:
-The student pop is small (but that makes you even closer with your friends).
- hmm i really can't think of any others, but then again i'm rather biased.

I made this same decision a few years ago and have never regretted my decision. These are two very different schools, with two very different environments. My reasons for choosing Bowdoin were that the environment seemed smarter and less pretentious, that the school seemed to typify my idea of college (a rather subjective criterion, I know), and that it provided a more intimate education. My reasons for choosing Bowdoin over UVA have been born out through conversations I've had with graduates of UVA (being from Virginia, I know a lot of them). And, although it was not originally my reason to choose it, I grew to know Bowdoin as a place full of good people. Strangely, this became noticable within only a few months of being there. I think this is both a factor of the type of students Bowdoin chooses, and also the type of education it provides.

Regarding things less meaningful in your decision, like name, or reputation (both schools fare well): I think Bowdoin's reputation is excellent, and benefited me in the law school application process this past year. Let me know if I can be of more help. You can't go wrong with any of your choices, but, for obvious reasons, I think Bowdoin is the best of the choices you have.

Congratulations!

Thanks for the very helpful posts. Even though I've had limited exposure to Bowdoin, I understand and agree with most of the advice. I loved the food, and was impressed by the dorms, and I also found it to typify my idea of a college. Both Bowdoin and Virginia lack many cons, with has only made my decision harder. Although I haven't made a decision, this information has definitely helped me. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
