Is it possible to make it from Thornton Hall to McLeod Hall in 15 minutes?

Yeah, it seems doable to me. You basically would walk the length of Jefferson Ave. You can look at the UVa Map (U.Va. Map : WebMap) and click McCormick Area for Thornton and Health System for McLeod to get a feeling of how long it is. You could also use Google Maps and measure the distance between the buildings.

Yeah, I checked the map, but I wasn't sure how to translate distance to time, in terms of how fast I can walk.

Thanks!

Yea, easily.

You should remember that
1. your classes will sometimes run late
2. professors don't always start on time
3. especially if it's a big lecture, people always come late to those.

I had a 400 person class my first semester where people had to come from gilmer/etc (it was in wilson) and there were ALWAYS people late and no one cared... So I guess it depends on how big the classes are, etc.

Best way to find out: Walk it around orientation or try it out for the first few days, if it's not going to work for you then switch classes.

I don't think 10 minutes between the Chemistry Building and New Cabell Hall are going to do it, right? Just as well that I'm seeking to exchange Chem 141 for 181.

Oh well if 10min for chm to cab isnt going to work, then mines definitely not going to work either. I've got gilmer to cab in 10min ahh..

10 minutes from chem to new cabell is something people do everyday. It will be a little under 10 minutes depending on how fast you walk so you should make it if you get out on time.

10min is plenty from Gilmer/chem to Cabell. I walked Thornton to Cabell just about every day last semester and could make it there in 5 if I hustled. Also, if you catch the bus from Chem to Cabell, it's maybe 5min tops.
As for McLeod, you should be okay from Thornton in 15min. My suggestion is to go down onto JPA directly from Thornton, then go around on JPA. You might have to book it, but you should be fine.

yeah. gilmer to brown is 5 minutes, and brown to cabell is less than 5 minutes, so it definitely is doable since the chem building is closer to cabell than gilmer.

last semester i had a class from 11-11:50, always got out late, and i had enough time to go from cabell to the dining hall (newcomb) and get a take out box of lunch and get to the chem building by 12:10, 12:15 at the latest. you just have to hussle and know what you want and where you're going. sometimes i would go back to my room in brown and surf the internet until 12:25 and then get to class by 12:30 when it started in the chem building. once you get your walking legs you'll be fine. :)

You should be able to get to most places in under 20 minutes. I walk everywhere at school and can get from McLeod to the astronomy building in ~20 minutes. I've also gone from McLeod to JPJ in ~30 mins. Most stuff on central grounds can be reached in under 10 minutes unless you're an annoying slowpoke.

I've got 10 minutes to get from Clark to McLeod. Is this doable?

What do you guys think about 4th floor of New Cabel to the drama building in 15 minutes?

Those are both doable. Even if you're a slow walker, the worst case scenario that you'd be looking at would be leaving one class a little bit early or showing up a little bit late for the next one. Not a big deal at all.

cab to phy in 10 min, that's doable right?
and in your experience, are the teachers lenient about tardiness?

01nc7-this isn't high school, if it's a big lecture hall most won't mind you coming in from the back and taking a seat back there, just don't walk all the way down to the bottom and cut across a bunch of people.

In smaller classes most won't care whether you come in late or not, if you see yourself being late a minute or two daily because of the distance you have to travel then just let the professor know. Some will be more strict and give you a look everytime you do it. Don't make it a habit since it is still courteous to show up on time of you are going to show up at all.

Oh, and NEVER show up late for labs.

thanks Protean. yeah, i dont forsee having a problem. just curious.

Um, what happens if I show up to a lab late?

Depending on the TA, they can either lock you out or take points off your grade. My TAs that I've had (Physics, CS, three ECE classes) never really cared that much, other than the Physics TA finally gave one kid points off on the last lab because he was consistently 10 minutes late to every lab. The others were mostly like "if you're late, you're cutting into your own time to complete the assignment". Professors and TAs aren't there to babysit you, and most understand if you're a few minutes late. Just don't make it a habit.

hazelorb,

As a side note, I was wondering what the take out lunches are like?
