Time Management Strategies????

Hello all!

Junior year is coming up and it looks like I'm going to be packed!!!! I was just wondering, since everyone on this site can balance all these APs and Extracurriculars, If anyone has any strategies to manage my time with homework and still get about 7 hours of sleep.

Schedule:
1) Spanish 3
2) AP Psychology
3) Pre- Calculus 1 (part 1 of 2)
4) AP English Language
5) AP Biology
6) United States History
7) Finance / PE ***
**** means grad requirements

I'm mostly worried about AP Lang (because I'm horrible at writing essays and hate it), AP Bio (About 1 hour of studying per night), and Pre-Calculus 1.

So I have a lot of homework and studying to keep up good grades.

I also need to study for the ACT which I will probably take in October, February, and June.

I also have a couple clubs: national honors society, national science honors society, DECA, FBLA, and Key Club.

Key Club and NHS require a lot of involvement and I really want to make it to state in FBLA and DECA again this year.

My Mondays are pretty cool because I volunteer at the hospital after school.

I work on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4-8 and Saturdays and Sundays from 10-6. This also hinders my studying

Lastly, I work out in the mornings on Saturdays and Sundays and world like to work out during the weekdays, favorably twice on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Ok so now that you know what my life will look like next year, please offer some tips on how to manage my time with homework and studying!!!!

Thank you :)

Wow, you sound like you’ll be busy. Make sure you don’t procrastinate! Aha what I often do is I plan out mini-schedules in my agenda of everything I need to get done, and allot time for each one, based on how important/urgent it is. And then I try my very best to stick to that schedule. Sometimes, that might mean scarfing down lunch in 5 minutes to work/study for the rest of the period.

Try and get as much done as possible during the summer. You can definitely start studying for your ACT early, and read up on AP Biology using the textbook. If you’re doing a written event for DECA, you can start researching, and if you’re doing an oral event, you can start studying (although tbh, if you’re doing the same oral event as you did this year, you won’t have too hard of a time).

Do you have a study hall/ any kind of free period at school? I try to get as much hw as I can done at school because once I get home I pretty much shut down. If teachers give extra time in class, do hw. If you finish an assignment early and have some extra time, do hw. I loathe wasting time at school just sitting in class after I’ve finished a test or we’re not doing anything because I could be working on hw.

@Orchidbloom: Thanks for the response! Ya usually I eat and study at the same time at lunch, which means I will definetly always be studying. I also bought an ACT prep book which I have started studying from. I have to learn 2 units for AP Biology for summer, but are you recommending I get further and head and learn 3 units or something? I’m doing a team event for DECA

@z0e101: Thanks for the response! I kind of have a free period… I’m taking PE second semester and it’s online in my schools computer lab. I am going to try really hard to finish the class in like a month which shouldn’t be hard and then I have the test of the semester to study. I get getting homework done at school, and I am going to try really hard to do just that!

Thanks!

@Orchidbloom: Sorry The rest got deleted for some reason. So I’m doing a team event so I guess I could start studying for the test.

Get one of those programs where can you block out websites for a period of time.

Hmm yeah, that’s perfect!

Honestly, if you like biology, it wouldn’t hurt to learn more :stuck_out_tongue: Just curious: which are the units that you’re planning on studying over the summer currently?

@Orchidbloom: Right now I have to learn chapter 1, unit 2 (the chemistry of life), and unit 11 (ecology). Ya I guess it wouldn’t hurt and I could probably start on ap psychology also.

@Douzepoints: The only websites I’m on is this one usually… Or travel sites. I guess blocking this website for awhile wouldn’t hurt… :P

@NYHope‌ And those travel sites…

@Douzepoints: Yep gotta dream, although I think your right I should block them

Oh huh…those are kind of random units…but I guess they’re the easier ones. Personally, I also found the evolution units to be relatively straightforward, as well as the plant unit. But it might be easier to pick units that you’re more interested in.

@Orchidbloom: I wish my class could start from the beginning. I’m kind of interested in all of them… So I guess I’ll just go with unit 3 so I’m not all over the place

Anyone else?

Online PE?

This may seem futile for some, but writing my assignments on a white board helped me keep track of everything I had going on. I would write down my nightly assignments, and I would have “bigger” things written on there as well (i.e. SAT/ACT prep, projects, test dates). Knowing what you have and how much time you have is crucial. As the year goes on, you’ll be able to gage how long it will take you to do certain assignments. The biggest thing is to just focus and not procrastinate. If you procrastinate, you’ll find yourself having three big things due at once. If you are assigned a lot of those bigger things at once, space it out and work on them (and finish them) one at a time. I honestly did not think I would make it through my second semester last year because of my course load especially because I typically take longer on my assignments than do my classmates, but time management got me through. Also, I’m glad to see you have some time for yourself in the form of exercise in your schedule!

@Ynotgo: Thanks for the response! Ya I’m going to take it online in our school computer lab during 7th period 2nd semester. I didn’t want to take the class because the online class takes like 3 weeks and I’ll have the rest of

@Elizabeth1315: Thanks for the response! I really like your idea of using a whiteboard. In fact I think I will go out and buy one! Are you talking about like a big wall one that can show the days of the month or a couple days or just a regular one?

@NYHope‌ Oh, is PE there like what we call “Health”? PE here is actual exercise and we have 2 years required. We have a required 1 semester health class, and people have been trying to get an online option approved because people don’t have room in their schedules. But, somehow it is difficult because then they would need to cut back on the health teachers’ time. Do you happen to know what online company is approved for your “PE” class? It helps to be able to say other districts allow this.
