Time to ask about chances

So, could you guys tell me what you think? I have a 3.7 and a 2250 from one of those fancy NYC private schools. I play three varsity sports, and am captain of two of them, but am not good enough to be recruited or anything. I do some political stuff, and some student government, but no exceptional SATs. I'm looking for good schools in or near big cities. The 'feel' of the school matters more than size, but everything else being equal, I'd prefer a LAC. I'm interested in Columbia (and maybe Barnard?), Stanford, Haverford, Swarthmore, U Chicago... what do you guys think? Any more recommendations? And my BF is at MIT... I know I shouldn't follow him there, but do I even have a chance at harvard to be nearby? Or is that lame? I also secretly would love to go there.

If you go to a fancy NYC prep, your college counselor can tell you much more than we ever can. They keep books with stats and ECs for everyone who applied. It's actually totally silly to ask here when you have that.

haverford = awesome - i'm gonna be a sophomore in the fall. i went to an nyc private school too. (UNIS...don't know if you know it.) where do you go?

I could ask my college counselors - and have talked to them - but they want to have very good track records, and discourage everyone but the top fifth or so of the class from applying to really competative schools, so I wanted to get someone elses sense.

What are you ranked?

At really top preps, Brearley and that ilk, the top third get into top colleges. Do look at the college book yourself. You'll get a very strong idea what it takes from your school at each college. A top prep works for you in some ways and against you in others. You will have a high bar set as someone who has had every advantage.

School doesn't rank. I'm probaby somewhere in the 4th decile (60-70TH percentile) but I don't know. I'd be interested in suggestions for safeties.
