How long does it take, on average, to get to O'Hare from Northwestern on the El? To Midway?

you have to budget about 2 hrs to ohare, maybe an hour and a half to midway, i'm not entirely sure (the routing is shorter from midway). it takes a long time, but it's cheap.

To/from Midway is about an hour and a half. I went orange -> red -> bus going out and purple -> red -> orange going back. It's really not bad at all...unless you get stuck on the red right before a Cubs game starts.

Take the $29 cab from O'Hare to NU. It's not worth the 1.5-hr train trip.

Take the train to Midway. You do not want to pay $60.

Great point just above about O'Hare/Midway/taxis. Not only is Midway further from NU, but also the traffic can be even more brutal b/c it's on the other side of downtown Chicago from NU, while O'Hare is nearly due west of NU (NU is north of downtown, O'Hare is northwest).

There is also a public-transit bus from Evanston to the park-n-ride at O'Hare: cheap but rather slow.

How long does it take to get to O'Hare on the bus?

you cant get to ohare on the bus

You can! It's $1.50 and it takes 1:10 minutes. Check this out:

I pay $29 to go to O'Hare because I am the type of person who likes to arrive at the airport promptly, especially when you need to check your luggage, grab something to eat, and arrive at the gate before they start boarding. If you time it right, the cab trip is only 25-30 minutes.

CTA has a trip planner: http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/ I don't know how reliable it is but I've had pretty good luck with it the times I've used it.
