time to make decisions!

now that we know (or will know in a few days) where we've been accepted, it's time to make the big decision. i'm sure a lot of us got accepted to the same places so the purpose of this thread is to post your options and if you want, add some pros and cons about each place. lets try to help eachother out on deciding. so here are my choices. where do you think i should go?

(btw, i'm undecided in major)

duke-
pros: highest ranked of my choices, prestigious, close to home (live in NC)
cons: expensive, not a whole lot of majors to choose from, supposedly rich/snooty people

johns hopkins-
pros: lots of majors, good science-y programs
cons: expensive, inner city baltimore, professors focus on grads, supposedly stressful

unc chapel hill-
pros: cheap compared to others, a lot of my friends & my sister go here, close to home, invited to honors program
cons: no engineering, so many people from the high school are going here (yes, this is a con), a little TOO close to home, too many girls compared to the number of guys

michigan-
pros: lots of majors, big college
cons: uber cold, far from home, expensive OOS

i know there's more but i can't think of them right now. so, which should i attend? :D

Come on now, this isn't that hard! DUKE!

i second incollege

haha! i guess i should have expected a bit of bias on the duke board :D

USC (S. Carolina) Honors
Pros: Love the campus; Full ride + free laptop and extra money back
Cons: Not very prestigious, limited class offerings, potentially not good when applying to Grad School

Duke:
Pros: Love the campus; Very Prestigious; Great Economics program
Cons: EXPENSIVE and I will be depending on Financial aid

I can't decide until I see the financial offer from Duke
I really hope the money is there but if not, I'll be happy at USC Honors
What do yall think?

Stanford vs. Duke? Which one would you choose and why?

I would choose stanford because I've already gotten in to duke and I'm expecting a rejection from stanford

:( i miss u guys.

haha, I was rejected from Johns Hopkins yesterday. I opened the email, read it, and laughed. The only sad part is that my record is now 5-1-1 (Accepted to Duke, UVM Honors, Brandeis, CU Boulder Honors, and BU; rejected from JHU, waitlisted at Emory) and will soon be 5-2-1 when I am rejected from Princeton :). Having said that, the only one that could compete with Duke is Brandeis, simply because Brandeis offered me 20,000 a year. Of course, I have relatives who do not want me to go there since I'm not Jewish, so we'll see.

Hey Bahamain, where else did you apply?

Duke's FA Offer pretty much made me decide on University of South Carolina Honors. My Family Contribution was twice my EFC, so there's no way this could work.

I didnt go all out with my applications; i was rather conservative...Duke was the only top 20 skol i applied to...simply because i wanted a small, private and personal educationt to prepare me for graduate school at one of the big boys.

I applied to Morehouse College, United World Colleges, Saint Joseph University (scholarship), Saint Mary's University and The College of The Bahamas...ill be happy where ever i am; and, who knows, maybe ill transfer to a bigger skol...maybe even Duke. ;)

Thanks so much for ur concern..appreciate it. This is gonna be if not my last...one of my last posts. I really enjoyed my time here and i wish u guys who got accepted and waitlisted ALL THE BEST!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS...U ALL DESERVED IT!

I like your attitude Bahama

Not possibilities because of money:

Johns Hopkins
Pros: Science powerhouse, Island in the city
Cons: Horrible dorms, Intense competition, Grads get all the attention

Emory
Pros: "Felt" right, nice dorms, nice campus, nice people, nice professors, nice everything
Cons: Rejected for merit aid and still haven't received FA, although, judging from other awards, it will be far from sufficient.

Duke
Pros: Awesome everything. My first choice.
Cons: Greek life is pervasive.

Washington and Lee
Pros: 25% tuition scholarship. Small and intimate. Southern and proud of it.
Cons: Greek life is dominant (80-90% of campus). Only 25% scholarship.

Possibilities:

Vanderbilt
Pros: Same as Emory, except I didn't get that feeling. 75% tuition scholarship = awesome.
Cons: Preppiness? I don't know, like I said, everything seemed awesome, but I didn't get a click. I just got back from my visit, though, and I'll have to see how much it grows on me.

U of Miami
Pros: 75% tuition scholarship, Florida, Great Spanish opportunities, Decent reputation
Cons: Still not worth the $20000, IMHO. The dorms are abhorrent.

U of Florida
Pros: Lots of available experiences. Good football team. Decent reputation.
Cons: Ginormous. Less prestigious. Only a sorta-kinda, we'd-better-have-something-to-show-applicants Biology major.

Not Considering:

U of Alabama
Pros: Money out the wazoo.
Cons: Alabama. Reputation.

U of Rochester
Pros: Curriculum. Med School.
Cons: Very, very cold. Campus is pretty unattractive. Didn't get into REMS program, which was the reason I applied.

The choice, then, is basically down to Vandy and UF. Vandy is awesome and everything is nice, but, like I said, I just didn't get the same feeling there that I got at Duke or Emory. UF is giving me a pot of money and my parents have said that they will put whatever of what they said they could spend into an account for me to use later when I go to Med School. Bad thing about UF is the 40,000+ student body and the lower reputation. Good thing is that their drive to recruit NMFs has resulted in a small pool of qualified people and that there reputation is rising. I'll have a hard decision to make in the next two weeks. I'm definitely not looking forward to it.

slipstream, can't you take out some kind of loans or something to go to duke? it would really be a shame if you didn't get to attend such an awesome university that you like so much!

unc chapel hill-
pros: cheap compared to others, a lot of my friends & my sister go here...

WOAH wait a minute here...your sister?? then u definitely cant go there!! lol

Duke - pros: great school overall, good social science programs, great study abroad opportunities, FOCUS. I also like the remarkable school spirit. cons: Durham sucks, hard to get around without a car (and I probably won't have one), expensive!

McGill - pros: In Montr
