Hopeful Pre-Med or Pre-Dental major

i already applied to my reach, BC. i also plan on applying to BU, Holy Cross, maybe NYU if my act scores turn it good, Northeastern, and UMass Amherst (safety). I have been considering U Rochester but its too far and isolated. I also have been considering URI, but could someone please tell me a little more about this school and its academics.

what i really need is some more college options, preferably in the new england area not too far from Massachusetts. i cant really pay 50,000 a year so a few good colleges that are likely to give me some sort of aid would really help.

what about UConn? fantastic dental school

is not generally considered in the same league as UConn or UMass, in that order. I assume you are fom Mass.?, if so, you are not going to get a great deal on tuition from other states' schools (although it varies from school to school, so it is worth checking out...) Also admission to UConn is very selective to begin with, so as an out of state student you might be at a disadvantage...

What about any of the SUNY schools? Their out-of-state tuition is more reasonable, and Binghamton, Stony Brook and Albany are all a lot closer than Rochester...Stony Brook has a good rep as pre-med and has begun to shed its image as a commuter school...

I'd see you're from Massachusetts. Are you closer to Boston or Springfield? If you're out west, then the NY schools are even more attractive distance-wise.

It appears you're looking at larger schools -- is that a preference, or is it because the state schools tend to be larger? If so, what about Rutgers, another strong state system in NJ?

Are you willing to go to smaller schools? Are you willing to go farther away, if it's easy/cheap/fast to fly there (Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC)?

I live about 30 minutes northwest of boston... 10 minutes away from UMass Lowell.

U.S. News Best Values Top LACs: Trinity, Lafayette, Union & Wells (as well as the five remaining Seven Sisters colleges if female); Top Natl. Us: Lehigh, R.P.I., W.P.I. & Clark;

Have you considered Providence, Wheaton, or Stonehill?

I know a few friends' kids who have gone to UNH and loved it; I would (as with any of these schools) look at the # and % of students who are accepted to medical or dental school.

I like the other recent suggestions, too, just ask the same question. Wheaton is in my neck of the woods and is a very good school, but is very different than say BU in feel. The campus is in the middle of nowhere, but Boston is less than an hour away and Providence (a very nice small city) is even closer. Seems like you could be in scholarship territory. Check it out, if only for the contrast with the other schools you're considering.

Clark U in Worcester (I know, Worcester...) shows up on a lot of "schools that deserve to be better known" lists.
