<p>AFC is determined by your parents (looks like AFC = $0 in your case), in contrast to EFC which is determined by the school. If AFC < EFC by a significant amount, you likely need good merit scholarships, unless the school does not expect much ESC (which would allow a larger ASC to still be reasonable). However, even when a school calculates an EFC that matches your AFC, it may still not give enough non-loan financial aid to make it affordable to you.</p>
