Timetable screw-ups

I just picked up my timetable for the year and I didn't get two of the classes that I really wanted. I got the core subjects: sciences, math, English, and Spanish. Apparently the classes I picked couldn't be fit into a timetable that worked. I got stuck with one alternate and this class that the school randomly selected for me that I don't want. I'm not sure what to do...other than the stupid class I didn't pick, my schedule's pretty okay. I don't know if I should drop the class and change it to an independent study period (I was thinking of self-studying some AP classes). What do you think? I could get a really high mark in the stupid class which could bring up my average but at the same time, I really don't want to waste my time with it. I'm just worried the admissions people might see it as me taking the easy way out and slacking off by getting a spare.

What should I do?

Anyone else with a similar problem?

I think self-studying an AP would be a good idea.
I'm a slacker so I know I can't teach myself something by myself, but if you can then I say go for it. Is there any way to talk to your counselor to seen if you have any other options?

I know how you feel though. I have 4 free periods right now, because I took the majority of advanced courses at my school already, and I don't get to have a science because its not going to work with my schedule.... I'm just going to fill up the free periods with some electives... because its better than having nothing.

I think that the AP self-studies are a good idea. Never waste your time if you can help it. :)

Ask for a copy of the master timetable and see if there is a way to work it out...sometimes councelors don't try hard to see if they can get it to fit. I've had to do that every year except my freshman. eye roll
