I am going to ask my professor from one of my classes this semester to write a letter of rec for me, apps are due march 15th, but i dont know when the letter of recs are due(im assuming march 15th as well)

When should i ask my professor? the day of the final, after i finish my final? or the last day before the day of the final?

I'm assuming its better to ask my professor before the semester ends and winter break starts..

I agree that it’s best to ask before the semester ends, that way the prof has time to write the rec over break if he/she wants. However, I don’t think a few days will make much of a difference, so I would suggest just going whenever is most convenient for the professor, probably the day before the final so he/she is less stressed?

I would ask him asap in person if he would be willing and able to write you a strong LOR, and set up a meeting with him before you go home to discuss this process.

I talked to him today, he said that I could send him an email with the attached forms because he knows he’ll lose them…but he also said to set up a office hours meeting with him to go over the letter of rec…Meaning he won’t be doing it over winter break. Is that an indication that he doesn’t want to write a letter of rec for me? I thought it would be a good idea to ask him because he would have some time over winter break to go over a draft at least?
