Timing Help Needed

Okay, probably a dumb question, but, hey, I'm a parent.

My daughter (junior) is planning on taking the SAT I (first time) in June. The reason is that she wants to take an SAT II in May. Question: is she better off taking the SAT I twice this year (once in May and then in June?)

She is prepping pretty seriously for the SAT I right now, so hopefully all that preparation will be to her advantage in May and June.

I'm thinking she can take her SAT IIs in October/November of next year. She'll have more time to study for the subject tests in the fall, right?

Does this make sense? Is there any disadvantage to taking the SAT I and then doing it again a month later.

Hope someone can help (if I haven't totally confused you guys.!

Thanks

It's best to take the SAT II at or near the time that the underlying course has been completed. So May or June is usually the best time.

It doesn't make much sense to repeat the SAT I twice so near in time -- if she took the SAT I in May she wouldn't have the scores in time to make a decision as to whether a retake was needed, or to know where to focus her prep and studies.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks so much!

last year DD took the SATII within a very short time of taking the AP for the same class. The teacher felt it was better to do the SATII in may, the SATI in June, and repeat that if you want in fall of senior year.

There's a school of thought that says a student may find one SAT I test easier than another, so take two SAT I tests a month apart. But even if one subscribes to this belief, it makes no sense to do it as a Junior since most students score significantly higher when they take the SAT I test as Seniors. JMHO.

S took SATII in June after taking the APs. I believe he took SATI in March.

Perhaps she should take ACT's also, most colleges accept both and it is a different test. Some kids will score better on the ACT and there are also standard charts that all admissions people use that convert ACT to SAT.

AdmissionsDan had a very clear timetable for all this over at the Johns Hopkins forum.
He also recommended the SAT IIs very close to the end of specific classes.

There really is no reason to take the SAT I again so close to the previous test. The reason being that she will not have learned much within a month's time to do significantly better.
