Timing of decisions

Good morning! D applied to Wake on 11/8/17. Any insight into the timing of decisions? By mail or portal?

Been wondering the same thing! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck everyone!

@2013GMSwinner Thanks! I wonder if ED apps are prioritized over EA.

@Momcoast @DaltonPeabody - I applied Early Decision on Nov 15th. Received Acceptance Letter on Dec 7th (dated Dec 5th). Admission Decisions only come by mail - never email. Aceptances come in an 8 x 10 black and gold envelope. FYI, if you applied Early Decision, there is a larger discussion group for that. Just lots more talk about acceptances, the stats of people accepted and deferred, etc. I will tag you both in that group so you can find it if you want to read that thread. Wishing all good things to you!

Thanks @Southern5062. D didn’t apply ED. I’m wondering what the response time is for regular apps. Congrats on your acceptance!

@momcoast I do think that ED decisions are prioritized over RD in terms of how quickly they hear back.
Last year they filled 55% of their freshman class with ED applicants (this is posted on their website / blog) and I get the impression simply from reading articles / blogs etc that they make a concerted effort to get that well-rounded ‘base of applicants’ early. ED applicants must confirm with a deposit in 10 days - so they ‘know’ we are coming and ‘know’ what half the freshman class will look like at that point. They then ‘round out’ that class with RD applicants. They are looking for a good mix of students, talents, interests, majors - all sorts of things. One example - If your daughter is planning to major in a less common major such as Religious Studies, and they had very few ED applicants interested in that major, that could make her a more attractive RD candidate. They need to fill those class seats and majors! Granted, she would still have to be highly qualified and shine brightly in every other area - scores, extracurriculars, interview etc… but something as simple as that can work in her favor for an RD applicant. I am sharing one of the many reasons they may take longer to make an admission decision for an RD applicant. Also, RD students have until May to decide, so the school really doesn’t know who will / will not accept those offers.

Again, this is completely what I have pulled from reading as many articles / blog posts etc as I can but I am not the authority. Even if she was not ED, you may want to read some of the posts from the Wake Forest Class of 2022 ED page I tagged you on, since there are a number of students that posted their stats and you can see which ones were admitted and deferred and perhaps get a little more insight.

Great insight, @Southern5062. Thanks so much! Fingers crossed that news will come soon.

This is a silly question, but are ED2 and RD decisions “rolling” as well?

I know the ED1 process is rolling but didn’t know if they do likewise for the other 2.

@GnocchiB
*ED2 is not rolling. Per their website: “Applicants are notified by mail only. The approximate date decision letters will be mailed is February 15”
*
Regular Decision does not appear to be “rolling” either. Last year, Letters were mailed March 21st to be received by April 1st.

**Here is a link to a GREAT blog post from their Dean of Admissions, Martha Blevins Allman, about last year’s Class of 2021 - how many applications were received, percentage of accepted students from ED, ED2, and Regular Decision. This article really helped me understand the overall selection process / percentages / chances for each group:
