i saw a quad in timothy dwight during bulldog days. it was a dump. although it had a private bathroom and a common room, everything was a mess. i don't mean just messy living but disgusting especially considering it was 4 girls. i thought the quad at timothy dwight was ugly. i saw saybrook when i went on a campus tour the first time i came to campus. i loved the common room but never saw dorm rooms. i stayed in ezra stiles in a single with another pre-frosh. however, it is far from the main campus and i am worried about security. the list of bad dorms is starting to grow: stiles, morse, timothy dwight, what else? where is the swing space. i did not see it on campus. is it off campus? other than dorms, i loved yale.

TD is actually one of the nicer colleges, having been recently renovated, you just had bad luck on that one.
However, TD will seem really isolated next year since Silliman will be a huge construction site. Either way, it's my college's (Pierson) fellow Georgian Colonial and I'd be happy there. My friend's suite there is really nice.
Swing Space is over near Payne Whitney Gymnasium.
It's like a hotel.
As for loving Yale except for the dorms, you're probably the first person I've ever heard say that. I personally live in the smallest suite on the Old Campus and actually like it. A suite will only be a "dump" if you let it get that way.

I soooo hope you're not talking about the suite I stayed in at TD. We were on the third floor. If it was a dump, blame it on the 6 pre-frosh staying there. Furthermore, the dorms were amazingly great everywhere. I think the residential college system rocks. It isn't so much about the room you get, it's the unity from the colleges. Plus, what do you want in a dorm? If you're looking for a penthouse in a five star hotel...well, you're out of luck in whatever university you choose.

You seem to have a lot of issues with the campus since your Bulldog Days experience. Not that I'm against bashing TD (being from Silliman), but really, if you disliked those nice renovated room, you probably wouldn't be too fond of Morse, Stiles, Calhoun, or Swing Space, whose rooms are bit a more 'used' than those of the renovated colleges. This means you're already at odds with almost half of the colleges, which is not the greatest way to start the 'Yale experience'.

Really, Yale dorms are as nice and spacious as the rooms of the other top tier colleges I have visited in the past couple years, and I'm unsure what you expect or would make you happy in regards to rooms. Yale is more about the experience than the rooms, and really, there is a reason why most students will rank their college as the best (or at least among the best). It is unfortunate you have so many apprehensions concerning Yale so soon.

I'm not sure what to say except there are very few security issues involving students, I've never met anyone who had a huge problem with the room they were living in, and the locations of every college has its advantages. Most of the 'centralized' colleges surrounding old campus are close to those classrooms...Calhoun and Berkeley are close to the library and WLH...Silliman and TD are near Science Hill...Morse and Stiles have Broadway nearby, making shopping/eating out very convenient.
