Tip For Students & Parents Waiting On Interview

If you see an unknown/unfamiliar or out-of-state phone call…answer it.

Sometimes they call you rather than email. Yes…I know that emailing someone would be taking the more professional and formal route, but not everyone handles business accordingly…or the same.

My interviewer never sent an email + he had actually called me a few times in one day but I ignored it because it was an out of state number. Later that same day, I finally called the number back and what a surprise…to say the least.

Just thought I’d share that because I’ve noticed a lot of people stating that they’re waiting to be contacted through email. Parents you may want to alert your students to start answering unfamiliar phone numbers & likewise to current + future applicants.

Hopefully this will ease a few nerves.

I believe interviewers have contacted applicants by phone, email, and even by text message, @penthouse. I am not sure that many people of your parents’ generation and older would consider a phone call less professional than an email.

I disagree. I don’t think one is necessarily more “professional” than another. Regardless, interviewers run the generational gamut, and they are certainly not going to conform to what a 17 year old deems as “professional.”

That said, as mentioned above, interviewers may call/email/text - it’s their choice. Personally, I don’t answer unknown calls. I’m rather surprised that s/he did not leave a message when you did not pick up. But it’s not like s/he will only try once and then say “Oh, well, I guess the kid’s not interested, so I won’t try again.”

@EastGrad You are correct. The past few weeks, I’ve seen multiple members post that they were waiting on an email. I just wanted to make sure that they knew that email wasn’t the only contact option for interviews. Apologies for the assumption made about the older generation lol…

@skieurope See the above. It was an assumption. Once again…just trying to help a few members out.

Thanks. : )
