TIP Scholar Program???

Hello, my name is Johnathan and I'm a senior in HS who is having an ordeal deciding between two schools, UT and A&M. One of the reasons I'm considering UT is because of its academics and the fact that I got accepted into the TIP Scholar program. TBH, I know somewhat about the program, and applied since it was invitation-only and I had nothing to lose. I didn't think I'd get into the program since over 3000 people applied, but evidently I did. I plan to go to medical school and am thinking about the JAMP program. I might get some responses on my ignorance of such a program but I didn't think I'd get in so I didn't bother looking it up. Anyways, I'm REALLY thinking about UT because of this. I got free school at A&M but my fin aid package form UT was superb. I guess it comes down to this program. Anyways, is the TIP program worth it? Thank you and have a great day.

First off, I don’t feel like any of these questions were ignorant in any way.

I don’t have any firsthand experience with TIP but one of my good friends is in the program. It seems like she’s made a lot of friends through TIP and I am certain that it has been instrumental during registration. TIP reserves a certain amount of seats in the most popular courses for its students so she was able to register for classes that would have otherwise been closed for her. I would consider that to be a pretty significant advantage, as it grants you access to some of the best professors teaching each course.

I wish I had more to pass on to you, but that’s about all I’ve got.

Thank you for being candid. What type of classes would those be, like basic classes like English or what? I don’t know which classes will be in high demand just yet, lol.

Since you’re graduating in '14, I’d like to ask another question; do the classes get smaller as one moves closer to graduating or does the number of students in a class remain stationary?

Thank you, your response was informative.

TIP is an excellent program and admission into it should not be taken lightly. It is basically a very indepth support groups of administrators and peer mentors that are there for you. To help you regisiter, to help guide you, etc. TIP scholars receive free tutoring and like the other poster said, select slots in registration. To answer you question about class size, class get smaller as students specialize. With $$ considered equal, I can’t imagine choosing A & M over UT, TIP or not. But with TIP…it’s a no-brainer.
