I will be going to SDSU this fall to study Pre-Nursing! I'm super excited to move to San Diego from Northern California and I was just wondering if anyone that went to/goes to SDSU has any advice for me? I also put a double room in Cuic for my first choice in housing! :)

3 pieces of advice I think every potential SDSU student needs to know.

1 SDSU is NOT A PARTY SCHOOL. SDSU has tried very hard in the last few years to shake that party school image. It is the #1 small research university in the country as of 2010 statistics, as well as holds the most doctoral programs out of any CSU school. Do not make the mistake of thinking SDSU is a party school, if you go in with the mentality you can party hard on Monday and show up to the test on Tuesday and get a B you will fail miserably.

2 SDSU is very competitive. It is not some school where everyone who didn’t get into a UC school ends up in. I was at UCSD doing research for close to a year, and decided to attend SDSU instead. It has in some cases (depending on major) superior programs to UCSD.

3 Take public transportation if you can. If you live close to a trolley station take it to SDSU, parking can be quite bad especially after 8am. Also gas prices around here are over 4 bucks a gallon, you probably don’t want to be stuck in traffic for 45 min getting out of the parking structure only to be stuck in freeway traffic another 45 min before you get home. You will end up blowing all your money on gas. Just ride the trolley.

Best of luck, hope you succeed in whatever endeavors you choose to undertake.

what was your gpa, sat and act? sorry just wondering cause im hoping to be a prenursing student next fall

I went in as a Transfer student with guaranteed admission.

All I can tell you is nursing is an extremely competitive field regardless of which college you go to.

how do tou get guaranteed admission as a transfer? and is it possible to transfer to san diego state as a nursing major from a cc?

caity27 what were your stats? im worried about getting admitted next year because i understand that san diego state has been stricter on admissions lately

Thanks alazar14! I’m not a huge partier, but I do like to have fun, so I think SDSU will be good. I am also living on campus, so I don’t have to worry too much about transportation.

and for those who asked, I applied with a 3.7 GPA and I had a 1970 on my SAT
good luck! I hope you guys get in!

This forum is really dead. Thanks for starting it up. I am also going to SDSU this fall and would love some tips for a freshman. I’m a native San Diegan, though.

Im now a sophomore at sdsu and what other choices did u put down for dorms? Cuic can be one of the nicest dorms and also really expensive, but it is a lot harder to make friends there. In the more traditional dorms such as Zura and Tenochca you can just prop your door open and people will automatically begin to introduce themselves to you. At cuic you cannot leave your main door open thus leaving you to really just meet the people in your suite.

caity27, critical reading and math scores? sorry just curious to see if i can get accepted next fall

any recommended extra curricular organizations? I’m thinking sorority but I don’t know which one because I’m not much a partier and most of them seem to be that way.

I’m a pre-nursing major as well! I’m actually kid of disappointed that SDSU isn’t a huge party school anymore haha but I can’t wait to be there next year (:

Don’t listen to them, SDSU is still a party school even if “SDSU has tried very hard in the last few years to shake that party school image”…doesn’t stop the students from partying hard

You can be a part of a sorority and not party with them ALL the time…you choose when you want to go out. Check out the top ones: Pi Phi, AKO, gamma phi and alpha phi!

Hi, I’m a student form the Netherlands and going to attend SDSU for one semester fall 2013. I’m looking at the housing opportunities and decided to apply for on-campus apartments. I can chose between Fraternity row, Piedra del *** and the Sanctuary Apartments. They provide floor plans and pictures but that doesn’t really help. Can someone provide me with information about these apartments? Like is it noisy at night when you live in the fratrow apartments?
