Hi!
I have completed my first year of college but i am not pleased with my grades. in my first semester, I received all As in general chemistry, introductory biology 1, biology lab, general chemistry lab 1, but a C in Calculus 1. In my spring semester I received a C in general chemistry 2, a D in introductory biology 2, an A in French 1, and general chemistry 2, and a B in calculus 2. How badly have i ruined my chances for medical school. I know there is a lot for me to prove but what must I do over the summer in preparation and what do I do with the D in bio 2?

The bio 2 class must be retaken and you must get an “A”. As for what to do over the summer, you should be doing the things pre-meds do, but most importantly, you must decide if you are willing to do what is necessary to become a physician. The C in calc 1 was the first clue. Calculus requires doing lots of problems. If you are willing to do the work, you will do fine.

So if I bring that Bio 2 grade up and do extremely well this fall semester, will they make up for the 2 Cs I already have? Have I ruined my chances in medical school? will they down at this?

Allopathic medical schools (MD) do not allow for grade replacement. Both the original grade and the retake will be included when your GPA and sGPA are computed by AMCAS.

Use a GPA calculator (<a href=“GPA Calculator ⭐ Reliable and Easy To Use | Back To College”>Decoding Destiny: Tips for Choosing a Major in College - Back2College) to figure out what your current sGPA is. Once you know that, you’ll be able to compute how many As it will take to raise your sGPA to 3.5 or higher. This will tell you how easy/hard it will be for you to recover from your freshman year grades.

sGPA includes only your grades in biology, chemistry, math and physics.
