I might have an overnight visit, and I'm hoping some of you can provide tips on how to get the most out of it. I heard that there is no attempt to match overnight visitors with hosts, so I guess I could have someone compatible or not. While I enjoy certain sports, I'm not a recruited athlete, so I won't be staying with anyone on a specific sports team. I guess athletics are the only way people are matched.

Do overnight hosts view it as an opportunity to extend hospitality and spend time with a guest, or do they just provide a place to put down a sleeping bag?

Any tips, war stories, etc. are most appreciated.

It depends. Is this part of the Fall Open House?

No. The Oct. Open House looks great, but I can’t go then. I’m thinking about ED possibilities, so the Nov. date is too late.

I’m thinking about an overnight visit to get a sense of the community. I’ll attend a few classes the next day to get a feel for the academics. I’ve already toured and had an interview.

most of the time, the host (usually a freshman) will view it as an opportunity to spend time with the pre-frosh (your official title). pre-frosh are generally loved by students, and if you tell current students you’re a prefrosh when you’re walking around, you’ll generally get any help with directions, etc. you need. if you share any interests with your host, you’ll definitely be able to spend time with them. if your interests dont overlap, you’ll probably still hang out and might be able to hang out with your host’s friend-who-shares-your-interest

Thanks! I’ll use my pre-frosh card as much as I can.

yeah, if you see a poster for or hear about an event that you’re interested in, feel free to separate or go with someone else. you’re not married to your host.
