I just scheduled my interview for next week, and the man told me to come prepared with questions to ask him. Do you guys have any suggestions for something good I can ask? I've been on two other college interviews already, and for the most part I did well, except for when they tell me to ask them questions! Usually I awkwardly say that they covered everything or make up some question that I already know the answer to haha. But the person interviewing me for Cornell clearly stated that he wants me to ask him a lot of questions. Someone help? I don't want to make a fool of myself lol

Ask him what he enjoyed. What made him decide Cornell. What was his 2nd choice and why Cornell. What were things that seemed important to him as a deciding HS senior but afterward, were inconsequential. Ask him about hidden gems on campus (food, hideouts, cultural things). Ask him about his favorite memory. Ask about what he least liked.

^All terrific suggestions! That should be pinned in the College Interview Thread!

I might add asking about what, if anything, he would do differently with his time at Cornell, if he could do it again. For example, gap year, study abroad, different major/minor, play sport/clubs, Greek life, dorm living vs off campus, etc. If your interviewer is older the answers may not be as timely, but a more recent grad might have an interesting perspective to share.

These are excellent suggestions. You may be applying for a program about which your interviewer knows very little. Even though the Hotel School and the Engineering quad are very close to each other, the students do not overlap all that much. (They may have been friends but not known the other’s curriculum.) I just picked two random programs. Architecture might have been a better example b/c on one ever saw those students. I took courses in five of the seven colleges plus the Johnson school but there is still so much I never saw on campus.

It couldn’t hurt to have some questions about your proposed major, just in case your interviewer studied the same. Good luck!

These are great suggestions, thank you so much! I will definitely use a lot of these suggestions :)
