I don’t suppose you can post a link to a picture, can you?

Woodstock was one of the movies I watched with my son before he left. What stands out to me is how terribly unprepared the promoters were in terms of food and toilet facilities.
Somehow I think that our own 18 year olds would be complaining mightily instead of sitting happily in the mud.

Not sure what the intention is of the bolded “Missypie”, but sure am glad to see agreement regardless, even if it’s singular in nature. :)

We drop off S two days early for sports, but are sticking around for parent orientation and to explore a little ourselves (plus it’s my birthday), so any and all advice on packing is well received. Husband just went on mini-road trip with S forgetting his little pile of shirts completely. They managed, but stopped to get him a fresh shirt come day 2.

As for Woodstock… I am not sure the parents of Woodstock attendees had a clue about what was perhaps aiding a lot of those kids to be perfectly happy sitting in the mud, do you?

How funny - I resisted the temptation to add a parenthetical about what would make someone content to sit in the mud…

Our parents didn’t much care what we did. And I didn’t like the mud, but I liked the adventure. Alas, no pictures.

mythmom, your dh would be a cutie pie no matter what he was wearing. :)

We were told by CMU to have a last dinner with our kid and then to say adios, I think we changed our shirts. :)

missypie–if you wonder why anyone would sit in the mud for Woodstock, you probably would really wonder why 2 weeks later 150,000 of us stayed for 3 days in the Texas heat for the Texas International Pop Festival.

I fell 18 again just thinking about it!

^LOL we went to the US festival in San Bernadino. The line up was incredible. Labor Day Weekend, 1982

Ah, from dads moving kids into their dorm rooms to great rock. A natural progression!!

I vaguely remember being at Watkins Glen, or maybe it was another venue. I think one of my old buddies had pictures. It may well have been a dream, or perhaps an out of body experience. I ate some mushrooms some short hippie chick wearing a football jersey was handing out. Can’t remember much of anything after that experience.

Hi violadad. How were the sh’rooms?

mythmom, the stuffing was to say the least, “interesting”. In hindsight, a pinch of salt and pepper might have been better.

Mathmom: Thanks for the kind words.

Last year - rented SUV to haul S’s stuff to and from DC/MA.
This year - shipped two large boxes of S’ stuff to DC, drove own car (w/ 2 suitcases for the 'rents and one rolling duffle bag and hanger pack for good clothes for S) to move him in. Money saved from not renting SUV this time around paid for 2 nights at nice DC B&B. God bless you, UPS!

I don’t even remember what I wore to move our freshman in last week! I think H and I wore jeans/shorts, light-colored polos, boat shoes/sneakers. We left her at 5:00 PM after we attended a Parent Orientation, we said our goodbyes & drove home. Arrived home about 2:00 AM & H got up and went to work. I don’t even remember looking at other parents and what they wore/drove! 3rd time around for us, so it just seemed like that “rite of passage” which you want to go smoothly! Which it did & we were grateful for that! Our major concern on a day like that is the welfare and happiness of our child, not ending up on the fashion “don’t” page with a black box across our face so we can’t be identified.

I thought that this one might be fun to read again.

Good bump.

Get a comedy audiotape now, and stash it in the car for the ride home.

I’m not a parent and I haven’t moved in yet but…I love this thread. :D

The first few pages of this thread were great until it got sidetracked by what to wear on move-in day.
