Tips for Freshman and HS Seniors entering school

I am currently a student at UCF (Jr) , im a transfer student from a 2 year state college , and i feel i have some good tips to share to be a better student

  1. Understand that you are entering the Big Leagues: College has nothing to do with high school (other than your admission criteria) it is a whole new game. For the most part you will not be reminded to go to class, to do hw or even study. If your self independence had not bloomed Sr year of HS then you may have some serious issues.
  2. Understand what you need to get done: Make sure you know what classes you need to take and the recommended sequence you should take them in. If you are undecided then make sure you finish all your Gen Eds(General Education) by the end of sophomore year. Undecided students really need to take advantage of career searching , I know in HS that those career search programs were just bogus and boring , but if you are in college still searching for a major , TAKE IT SERIOUSLY . There is no General BA degree lol
  3. The night before class prepare: Pack up your bag with the necessary books and notebooks, so you dont have to hurry out of bed and scavenge through your things in the morning. You are an adult now at this stage, be systematic. Also if you are commuting to school , make sure you know your route and you know the time you will need. I know at UCF the traffic is a burdon as well as parking , make sure you give your self enough time to be able to sit outside the class for 15 min.
  4. Do not waste your time partying: Its Friday night , you have nothing to do , so you go out with friends and party (club, drink ,games ,etc) You do not want to be that statistic that got a degree and cant find a job. You maybe in a major that is projected to have a tough time finding a job , but one thing you distinguish your self with , is a good GPA. Take the time to study more on a Friday or Saturday night. Not every weekend , maybe once and a while though.
  5. Understand what you did in HS: I know I said HS has nothing to do with in college, but one thing that may carryover are your study habits. If you are in a CC , a Dream School , or even your "2nd choice " make sure you understand the mistakes you made. For example , in my case , I got so riled up when it came to my social life, just talking to my friends would distract me and I would lose focus in studying. When I entered college , I made sure that I got my studying done and got the grades. My social life my first two years in school was not very high , and the effect of it was that I made better grades.

Thank You
I hope this gives you some insight for how college can be
