I'm going into 8th grade and I would live to go to deerfield.
My grades (for 7th grade):
English: A+
Social studies: A+
French: A+
Science: A
Math: B+ (one point away from A :( )

I made high honors the first trimester and honors second and third trimester.
I was on student council, part of peer helpers ( a mentoring program for kids with disabilities), a tour guide for my school, part of a new club that is funding a school in Tanzania.
I was a finalist for my state for LAL (letters about literature, a national contest) and have gotten awards for my participation in clubs.
I play lacrosse for my school and on a competitive, state wide team, I also play soccer and ski in the winters. I also help with several summer camps in the summer, and babysit for a few families.

I know this isn't much compared to other people, but it's what I've got. What should I do to help my chances? What are my chances currently?

I am applying to Deerfield this year too. Although, I’m going to be in tenth grade and repeat (sports reasons).I am a legacy at Deerfield so I know the process. Deerfield loves students that will add to the community clans also represent the school. I am looking to play soccer, hockey and baseball baseball at Deerfield. I am going to send videos of me playing soccer and hockey because those are my two major sports, I strongly recommend that you do this for lacrosse. You should make sure that you really really well on your interview and have GREAT teacher recommendations. If you do all of this along with your stellar academics and achievements you will be a fantastic candidate.
p.s. buy an SSAT prep book, preferably the Princeton review

Thanks, that really helps! I’d never considered sending clips of me playing sports before! Best of luck with your app!

I’m applying for 2014 class too, 9th grade ( : you should give emphasis to your sports because they are amazing! Include awards and honor you have received and great recommendation letters, good luck!

Thanks! Hopefully we’ll both get in!

I don’t think your ECs are not much compared to others. They are very good and I have a feeling that they show who you are as a person very well. Try to be more concrete when expressing your achievements. Also, get a good score on SSAT. All the best!

I applied last school year to Deerfield as well, and I got in! So I’ll be attending Deerfield in the fall. I think your grades look good, as well as your EC’s. Just get a good score on the SSAT’s (Take the test --at least–twice if possible!) and I think you’ll be all set. Best of luck to you and I hope to see you at Deerfield!

My DS starting at DA in Fall (class of 2017). Don’t worry about the number of ECs you have–just make sure you do some you love and can talk about those in depth–and show how much you love them! Your grades look great–also be ready to talk about what you care most about academically. Good luck!

Thanks everybody! Your views are really helpful!
