Tips for improving my score

I took the ACT for the first time in June and I got a score of 28. In September/October (I'm not sure if I can take the September test yet, I'd have to go to another state), I would like to improve my score to at least 30. My scores in each area were as follows:

ENGLISH 30
MATHEMATICS 27
READING 34
SCIENCE 22

I walked into the test with pretty much no preparation. I was lucky because I was just finishing my pre-clac class, which covered a lot of the math on the test. I also reviewed math in an ACT book that I checked out from the library. I didn't think that Science would be a problem so I didn't study it; when I took an ACT practice test, I scored much higher in the science section.

How would you recommend that I study? I don't have access to many textbooks (there is Peterson's, and another, but I'm not sure who the publisher is) and I don't want to buy them unless I'm positive that they will make a significant difference in my score. Are there any free websites that you know of? And how long before the test would you recommend that I begin studying?

im kinda in the same boat as you... sorta
i got a 30 on english and math, but i feel like i should have got a much higher score on the math.
then came the reading which i promptly scored a 26 on then the science i got a 22 on.
i don't get it at all... and i'm starting to get extremely frustrated :(
please help!

take some practice tests! its kind of hard to study for science, so just practice practice practice. you can easily learn the math/english concepts that are on the test on your own

I usually start studying 2-3 weeks before a test. Although when I took the ACT I didn't study at all, but for the SATs, yeah, 2-3 weeks is my sweet spot. Too much before, and I run out of material/interest or forget stuff. Too much after and I don't have time to satisfy my desire to prep.

It's probably a bit different for you, figure it out (:

I plan on only buying the official Red Book study guide. I've prepped so much for my SAT, I think I just need to do a few runthroughs on math/science/english before the test in September.
