Hey guys, I have a bit of a problem I hope you can help me with. I’m currently a rising senior and this September I will be starting my classes. I currently hold an internship at the University of Pennsylvania aiding research in Gene Therapy. I didn’t go to a fantastic school, but I was one of the students who did well despite the available resources.
I took a look at SAT Math II practice tests and got a headache because 75% of the questions I had no idea how to even begin to solve.
I got a 22 on my first ACT and a 24 on my 2nd try w/o much practice. The ACT for me a jumbled mess that doesn’t show my interest in math and science as well as I’d like it to. So I decided that I should take the SAT Math II subject Test as well as the Physics Subject test. My only problem: the gaps in my knowledge. I have no idea what subjects I should go back and learn on a more advanced level or where I can learn these subjects. I’ve been looking around online but nothing I find really helps me. I’m not the brightest crayon in the box but I have the capacity to work hard. My goal is at least a 750 on the MATH II and a 700 on the Physics Subject Test. Do you guys have any recommendations for places I could start learning these subjects? Any free resources I can use to practice?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Go back an review the process for correctly solving each of the questions you answered incorrectly. On the college board’s website there is a list of about 20 practice questions that all have explanations. There is also a list that shows you the percentage of the type of questions that make up the test.

A prep book might also be a good idea, as they have good explanations of various problems.
My biggest tip would be- once you get your practice down and understand how to do 95% of the questions, don’t waste time. I found that test to be a time crunch.
Good luck.
I am just a mom who helps her kids with Math on standardized tests. I don’t know too much about you, therefore my suggestions may not be helpful. What level of Math have you finished? In general, precal should cover what you need to know on Math 2. Do you know why your score on ACT was so low? Was it because you forgot the Math concepts or that Math was just difficult for you? I am concerned when you said you got a headache for 75% of the Math II questions and that you scored only 24 on ACT…it made me think that Math may be difficult for you and I am not sure whether it is realistic to aim at 750 for Math II along with Physics for the next few months… on the other hand, if you google prescholar 24 ACT Math, you can see that you only need to get about 40 questions right to get a 26…which I think it is easier to achieve. and you can work your way up from there…Anyway, if you insist on trying for Math II, I agree that the Barron SAT II Math book is good… if you want to try the act Math, I suggest Richard Corn’s Ultimate Guide along with using crack act…
