Tips for Starting Sophomore Year (High School)

I'm starting sophomore year this next week and I'm really anxious to do well this year considering I only had a 3.4 GPA this last school year (3.76 weighted). As the oldest child I don't know what to expect out of high school in general considering my one parent who did go to high school did so in another country.
I am taking:
AP European History
English 10 H
Chinese 2 CP
Algebra 2 CP
Chemistry 10 H

Hi! I’m a senior in high school and I just started going to a new school this year. When I was in 10th grade I had a lot of fun. I’m not sure if you had a good freshmen year, but sophomore year is just fine. I understand you though, because I’m the oldest too and I try really hard, but sometimes you can only do so much. If I were you I would really focus on my AP and Honors classes, because you don’t want to do bad in those. Also if you see that they are too hard for you in the beginning, don’t be afraid to move to another class. It won’t make you look bad or less smart, you’re just being safe for your gpa. I hope I helped, but feel free to PM me whenever if you just want to talk :)

If I had to give you two tips for sophomore year, the first would be to relax, and the second would be to ask your teachers if you don’t understand something. Don’t get too stressed out but don’t let yourself fall behind. Try to avoid procrastination at all costs because that is a vicious hole you do not want to fall into. Also, make sure to spend time doing things you love (clubs, sports, outside of school things, etc) because there’s no point doing anything if you’re miserable. Try to keep a positive attitude and drink lots of water and be open-minded about everything before judging it. It’s your life so make sure you’re enjoying it. Grades aren’t everything and happiness is really the only thing that matters jn the long run. (I know I soun like a big hippie but it’s true!) But I know grades can be a big deal, but as long as you enjoy your classes, your grades will show that. Focus on learning rather than just getting an A. Be happy and have fun and love stuff! Good luck ;)

Focus on school (specifically your grades). Sophomore year is the easiest in a way because you don’t really have to deal with college related stuff yet and you are not dealing with the middle school to high school transition anymore. Stay on top of your work and focus on really learning the material, especially in math because you need to understand Algebra 2 to understand upper level math (or so I am told, I will let you know later this year). Stay involved in your ECs, try and get some leadership positions if possible…
Good luck and relax!
