my teacher basically discouraged us on the first day of AP lang. she told us that those of us who had her last year (me) were going to see a major drop in our essay grades, and that unless we were scoring in the 90-100 range on her 10th grade essays, i got 80-85, we would probably struggle for a B. i really need an A in this calss though, or else my gpa(as if not bad enough) and my colleges dreams will die. can some one give me tips on getting A's and how the essays are supposed to be structured and how to read the novels and manage time. thanks=)

My teacher slaughtered me in grading. She was the toughest grader ive ever had. If you are really concerned about your GPA, i actually recommend dropping down to Honors and maybe self studying for the exam.

However, if you still want to continue in the course, i suggest scheduling meetings with the teacher. I really do regret not having conferences with my teacher a lot more, but when i started to i was able to find out how SHE liked her essays so i was able to end up improving the grades.

As far as the reading goes, pace yourself. Dont save things until the last minute, or you wont remember a lot about the book like me and fail some of the reading checks. Keep a steady pace and if you are having trouble keeping up, then Sparknotes can help a little from time to time. But make sure you do go back and read the text sometime.
