Tips for TOEFL

Hey, i am preparing to give TOEFL,so can u guys tell me some tips for vocabulary, reading listening and how should i prepare myself for this exam, any link for practice test etc.thanx

Are you coming from a foreign country, or are you in the U.S. right now?

So do I. in 2015

Perhaps, it’s not the best way to study but it works for me

Free TOEFL iBT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tippsonline.toeflibt</a>

TOEFL iBT Preparation: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xuvi.pretoefl</a></p>

As you see, it’s only for Android devices

@paul2752 i’m in us right now

@Mrduque‌ which college u want to go to? And r u giving SAT?

i recommend taking sat if u dont have difficulty reading and understanding English, which i dont think you have.

@paul2752‌ But my HS is outside the usa so i need toefl…the college i want to apply they told me to take toefl … So i have to.

So, prepare for the TOEFL - use a guide such as Kaplan’s or Princeton Review’s for basics, then practice with “real TOEFL iBT with audio”.

@pauline123 i’m going to apply for full need-blind universities like MIT or harvard

For that you have to get above 110 to be competitive, full score is even better. Based on your writing here you need a lot of help, you need fee paid tutoring like Kaplan. Take highest level of esl at a community college is another option.

^actually TOEFL doesn’t matter much to these very selective universities. As soon as admission officers have checked you have the level they want, they no longer care and move on to the “real” information in your grades, scores, etc.
TOEFL scores above the minimum threshold required only matter to schools that don’t require the SAT or ACT, and to Northeastern that decided to have its international scholarships depend on TOEFL score.
For other schools, they’re just a cut off system: “we want 100, he’s got 85, automatic reject pile, no discussion - that was easy.”

@MYOS1634‌ Does it mean that I have no chances to enroll the university, if I have few points below minimum requirement??? Should I give up or I try my luck? ( I heard that there can be exceptions… Some students entered universities with TOEFL score below minimum requirement)

Some universities have “conditional” enrollment for students whose academic records are good enough for admission but whose English is not fluent enough. However, these students wouldn’t qualify for financial aid.
If your record is otherwise excellent, and especially if you aren’t applying for aid or scholarships, a couple points off wouldn’t matter very much (ie., if you have a 98 and they want 100 you’re fine if otherwise qualified - but if you have 94, then yes it matters and you’re cut in that first round.)

It may not matter in college admission as myos stated. But higher score increase your chances.
