Tips for wait-listed freshmen/students

What can you do if you are wait-listed at your top (number one) choice college or university?

Send the reply post card indicating you want to remain active on the wait-list.

Write a letter to the dean of admissions and let him/her know that you are still very eager to attend. Include any significant new information
since you sent your application: grades, awards, etc. If the institution is reasonably close, contact the department head for your major and
seek to meet with this person. Getting this person on your side could work wonders if any seats become available after initial enrollment.

Ask your high school counselor to call or write the admissions office conveying your enthusiasm and his or her support for you.

Consider sending an additional recommendation or letter from a teacher or another person who knows you well. The higher up the chain the better.

Choose your number two school that admitted you and notify them that you will attend; send in your deposit to confirm your seat.

Put the wait-list out of your mind and focus on the college you will probably be attending in the fall. You've done more than most students will do
to raise their application to the top of the stack.
