Can anyone please tell me tips on how to write a good essay?

Check out this thread:

Let your own voice shine through. Don't make it scholarly, boring dribble. Don't let your parents rewrite it for you, even if you have to hold them off with a cricket bat. Keep it moving, and edit, edit, edit. Write the whole thing, then snip away until the basics are left, and embellish if you think it's necessary. Once you've done all that, it will no longer flow, because you spent so much time on each individual sentence, so it will take some rewriting, transitioning and redefining.

Make someone else read it (who isn't your parent or counselor). If they don't understand something, don't fight, but try to see it from their point of view. Fix it. It will throw something else off balance; rewrite that too. By the time you're done revising for the 1863'd time, it will look nothing like what you started with, but it will be one of the best darned essays you've ever written.
