I got a 2400 last June, and what definitely helped me the most was studying by taking sections from the Blue Book where I wasn’t getting them all right and doing quick practice with those. I started like a month before the SAT because otherwise I probably would have forgotten all the vocabulary words (can’t seem to remember any now) but before then would probably be smarter… Also there’s a lot of good SAT vocab apps for the iPad/iPhone that I spent a lot of time with, and that was really helpful. And I wouldn’t say it’s too important. I promised myself if I got above a 2200 on my first try I wouldn’t retake it.

Hi, you said you took 50+ SATs, right? Do you mind telling me where you found all of them? I have the Blue Book and a Barron’s back when the SAT was out of 1600. That’s 17.

wow! encouraging!

You don’t seem to me like a senior, but much more mature than so many other kids at your age. I’m a parent with a daughter ( senior) struggling to improve score from 1960 to 2100, and a son (sophomore) starting to prepare for a target of 2300+. I’ve taken some sections of SAT myself ( I’m a physician, nonworking currently). This is the BEST ADVICE THAT I COULD HOPE TO GIVE TO MY KIDS. I’ve printed your page to give to them to read. I admire you and truly appreciate that you took the time and effort in writing such valuable & detailed guidance. CC should post your post as a headeline so that everyone can benefit from it. I don’t have time to write more, but thanks a lot. May God’s blessings be with you. I’m sure you’re at a great place advancing in your life’s journey at great speed.

Thanks a lot…I’m really going to use the essay technique. It looks helpful. I’m really good at math but I can’t seem to get the full 800 because of dumb mistakes. Not sure what to do. I’m pretty good at the Writing MC, but I make dumb mistakes too. But I am no where close to where I want to be in CR. I’m scoring 500-600. I’m currently at a 2000 and I’m doing the test in like two weeks so if anyone has any quick advice, I’m all ears

This Guy took 50 practice tests?! That’s insane. He deserves the 2400 more than anyone.

I’m also wondering where you got 50 practice tests. I can hardly accumulate 15.

Wow! Thanks for the tips, very helpful! and congrats on your 2400!

Omg thank you for that post, you’re amazing for that! I really want to improve from a 1290 to a 2400. I have five months left till the SAT and honestly I’m doing 21 practice tests and it’s just insane. I want to improve so bad! This is a huge goal, a lot would day impossiblr, impossible, impossible, but whatever to make it possible I wwould do. Any tips out there I would be grateful!

I’m a little confused…I was told that the SAT is designed so that you cannot study for it because it measures inherent ability. Is this true?

^ no, you can study for the SAT for sure

Bump, because I just read this and I love it. Need some advice though: Can you go from and 1520 Freshman score to a 2200-2400 Junior-Senior Score?

Hello!
I was helping a friend’s younger brother apply to colleges today, and for some reason this thread, and I guess all of CC came flowing back from my memories. It’s almost been 10 years since I wrote this.
I don’t have much to say but for those wondering I eventually spent 4 great years at Columbia and I’m now completing my law school degree at HYS. A lot of the opportunities I have today probably came from (in a bufferfly-effect kind of way) from getting pretty lucky at this test, and getting into Columbia from a tiny rural town that sent few students to top colleges.
Looking back maybe none of this mattered, and it’s just a dumb test that is held in too high esteem (and too often associated with socioeconomic privilege than real ability) when I was younger, but damn, after all these years I can still remember the day I got my score back.
Study hard, you guys will be alright.
@.Masochist how can you be attending law school at Harvard, Yale, and Stanford at the same time? Can’t you only attend one at a time? unless HYS stands for something else?? If you got into Stanford please give me advice on the intellectual vitality essay T___T congrats on your life !! Looks like the SAT really does matter after all…
@otoribashi, the HYS abbreviation is shorthand for “one of HYS”–the idea is to not disclose the exact school but communicate the caliber of the institution.
