Tips From A 2400er

Great post!

Great advice! Thanks a lot!
I got a 2230 in October but I'm just a junior so I think I'll definitely aim for that 2400 next time! (Hah I would be happy with a 2300+ and I've got a looot of time to prepare)

i love the look of the score report of yours..lol thanks for the tips!

Woah great post. I think you're right about it being 95% doing problems. I wish I started studying as early as you did and maybe I could have achieved a higher score, particularly in the math. I started studying the middle of my junior year. I don't even think I knew what the SAT was until I was a sophomore. I did manage to go from a 158 PSAT to a 2100 SAT (math killed me). It was an achievement I was really proud of, but I still wish I could have done more. Great job though... that's amazing.

^wow...studying the middle of your junior year is pretty dam early.
This guy is a rare case, you already started much earlier than usual.
I think I started studying probably this summer of my senior year, LOL.

Haha the picture of your 2400 is an inspiration for me and many others :)
thanks for the great post! Hopefully somehow I can uhhh gain the self-discipline to study as diligently as you.

congrats! nice post too.

very inspirational, thank you for this post. now i better get crackin' and break the 700 barrier for CR!

When my brother got his 2390, he got 790 on the W with a 9 essay and 2 wrong on the MC. I'm not sure what the MC subscore was, but it is possible that 780 could be 2 wrong.

in all honesty, i didnt think i even had to take the sats. like i knew I did cause I saw the perfect score, but I didnt think I would have to. So i actually learned I had to aprilish junior yr and am now realizing it was not good to do that

When I got my 2390, I got 790 on the W with a 9 essay and 1 wrong on the MC which was an 80.

That was unnecessary background; I just thought the parallel was interesting. What I'm trying to say is, -1 = 78 would be pretty harsh. It was probably -2.

Wouldn't -2 actually be -3 because of the -.5 rounded to -1 from missing 2 questions (given that he didn't skip one)? I know I didn't skip any.

Naw, it rounds up.

I can see how you'd think that, but it's not that minus 2.5 rounds up to minus 3.

It's like... raw score minus 2.5 rounds up to raw score minus 2.

Oh, hah, all these years of SAT I never knew that.

I think your guide is wonderful. However, I do take issue with a few parts here:

"If you seriously think you can get a 2300 by doing the 10 or whatever number tests in the blue book, then you must be a genius. I could literally go through that book in a couple weeks. For most people, 10 tests aren’t nearly enough to score 2300+. I probably did 50+ at least. "

This is not true at all. There are many people who are in that range but are not 'geniuses,' and not everyone has to take the same number of tests to improve their score by however much. If there's anything I have learned from studying and talking to my peers, it's that everyone is totally different. I have friends who took a couple of practice tests; others did only problems while still others cranked out 50+ tests, as you did. I personally took three Kaplan full-length tests and did a decent number of practice problems and got a 2400.

Hmmm...What I think I mean to say is that the tests aren't the important part if you work well under the conditions. It's the questions themselves that matter. So timed tests might not be that important if you perform well under pressure anyway.

Anyway, I applaud your effort and persistence. It is incredibly that you made such a huge jump; I would have never thought that possible! It makes my own effort look like a bout of laziness compared to your work...Seriously, congratulations.

Where is the assistance for those students needing to get a 2300+ to that 2400. I looked, but couldn't seem to locate any section pertaining to that situation. You are excluding a sizable majority here on CC with that omission...

Very nice guide, though.

you are insppirational

To edit my post, I meant minority, not majority. I love mistyping things...

wow...really generous writing curve
i got 79/10 in oct 08 and got a 790...

^Echo amciw; I might write a guide for that if I have time. There are a lot of 2300 scorers going for the big kahuna; I was one of them (235 on PSAT...same difference).
