Luckymom22, Cal Poly will make their decisions for ED in early December, and will use only the information supplied on the CSU Mentor application and official SAT/ACT scores that were sent to them. All acceptances will be “conditional” both at ED and at RD. After HS graduation, CP will need an official copy of the HS transcript so they can verify all the grades/courses reported on the CSU Mentor application. Once everything is verified in the summer, the acceptance becomes official and no longer “conditional”. AP scores are not needed to verify an acceptance unless an AP score is used to get credit for a high school course. Below are two examples where AP scores are needed to verify an acceptance.

One of my kids made a “D” in AP Chemistry. IIRC, a grade of “D” is not sufficient to get credit for the year of a “weighted” lab science, but his AP Chem exam score of “4” does qualify as a year of weighted lab science. On the application he listed the AP Chem Exam instead of the AP Chemistry course in the section where science classes are listed. He was accepted RD. Then in the summer when CP got his HS transcript, his “conditional” acceptance went into “review” (most likely because of the D in AP Chem). Once they received and verified his AP Chem exam score then his acceptance became official.

Two of my kids took the AP English Language exam and passed it without taking the corresponding AP English course. So on the CSU Mentor application, they listed the AP English Lang exam in the section where you list English courses to give them another year of English credit. Of course CP then needed the AP English Lang exam scores in order to verify their acceptance in the summer.

If AP exam scores are not used to get credit for a high school course on CSU Mentor, they will only be used for college credit/course placement and can be sent in July once 2014 scores are reported.

CP doesn’t want AP score reports or HS transcripts unless (a) the student is accepted and (b) the student submits their SIR (student intent to enroll). They reject thousands every year and thousands more who are accepted do not enroll. They don’t want to receive AP scores and transcripts for all these people that will not be attending. Sometimes they do request a mid-year (after fall semester grades are in) transcript for conditionally accepted students.
