Tips on dealing with being deferred from Wesleyan

These tips aren't guaranteed, but they definitely don't hurt...

1) Write a letter to Wesleyan expressing your high level of interest in the school. Also let Admissions know about any awards, honors, or roles you've earned since you applied ED. These will connect you on a personal level with the university and will demonstrate your talent.

2) Get your grades up for first semester as much as possible. A lot of the kids I know that go here were straight-A students in high school, and a continued effort throughout senior year will certainly impress Admissions, especially amongst other top students. If you're taking the toughest courses in your school and doing really well in them, you're golden for EDII.

3) Apply to other schools. You never know whether you'll be rejected EDII. Remember: If you don't get in EDII, you aren't waitlisted. There is only a waitlist for RD applicants. I read this at Admissions when I visited last week to talk to some people.

AND FINALLY, THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF ALL:

4) Don't stress out! If you do, you'll go absolutely crazy, and you most likely won't be able to function in school and in showing Wesleyan that you deserve to get in.

Good luck to all of you that were deferred! :) I have faith in you, and hope to see you here next year!

Showtunesguy, Thank you very much for your helpful suggestions; very kind of you. Grateful mom

thanks a lot :). I appreciate it!

great! thanks! except, i was defered to RD. Any tips for that?

were you really? I was deferred to EDii...I wonder why they have the two dif. versions?

I would agree, Showtunesguy, that it is very important to keep your grades up and take the hardest classes, but it is important to mention that even if that is the case, Wesleyan is a very competitive school, so no one is exactly "golden".

i was also deferred to EDII...

do u think it's more beneficial to stay in EDII or go to RD?

RD has a waitlist, but we all know the odds with those!

You have a better shot getting in EDII than you do RD... because ED means you are committed to attending and therefore are a guaranteed boost to the yield.
