Hi all, I'm looking for a job like crazy right now. Any tips to get hired in this economy. Thanks!

network, network, network. that’s all you can do. ask parents, parents’ friends, so on and so forth. that is the only way to get a decent job. the other way to go is just to drive around, and find a job at the mall or something. it is a really tough economy though so that is unlikely.

you could also be ur own boss. start a little gig, something you like to do, make it into a business. that’s another way you can approach it.

Network, and if you can’t, deal with a really crappy job. I actually have job experience, but I was applying for jobs with people with 15 years of experience and an unfortunate lay off. Guess who got the job? Not me, obviously, so I ended up getting a very crappy, minimum wage job. If you can get an internship (paid/unpaid) you will look much more valuable int he eyes of future employers.

Well I have some good news for you, since school is starting back up, all the seniors/college kids will be going to school and will have to leave their jobs so try to apply to places where you know a lot of kids from school work like local grocery stores. After applying follow up the next week and call and ask to speak to the hiring manager and ask them if they had received your application and see if they have any open spots due to leaving students and whatnot. Then after you get an interview, send them a thank you note for the opportunity and that you hope to hear from them soon. Also try craigslist (that’s where I found a job) and Kmart, if you apply online you get an automatic interview if you have one nearby since I bet lots of college kids work there too in the summers since I know they do here.

there’s no magic trick. just apply

If you’re on CC, chances are you are somewhat intelligent. Use this to your advantage by finding a tutoring job. In about a month or two, parents will start looking for tutors. In fact, some parents are looking for tutors now so that you can give their child a head start (I got two calls in the past three days for prep; none in the previous month before that). So, post advertisements around town (at the coffee shops, gym, grocery stores, etc.) where parents tend to go. Post an advertisement on craigslist. Ask some teachers or departement heads if they’ll recommend you if a parent calls.

I tutor math, and I make around 15-20 an hour. It’s good money, and the time constraints aren’t bad at all (generally :)).

Take whatever you get. Don’t expect anything better.

I’m starting my own business. ;D

I’m building computers and selling them myself. Only takes about two to three hours to build each computer. I’ve also already sold a few, and from each computer, I make a steady profit of $200. I have about $800 right now, only after about 10 cumulative hours of work.

If you’re applying for a job, follow simple rules:

-Keep the application crisp and clean
-Write neatly
-Be nice to the people working there when you ask for the application
-Call after a week or so to check on your application

It’s not rocket science, apply to many places and you’ll probably get a job. Oh, and I completely agree with the networking suggestion. I got my first job as a Lab technician at a Dermatopathology place through a friend’s mom.
