Tips on getting into a full class?

Do you have any? For example, what should I consider when petition?

Also, how can I prevent this in the future? Do you have any tips on how to make sure you get into a class, even with a late registration time?

Email the professor. Be polite and succinct. State your reasons for taking the class and ask what the department procedure is for getting in.

When you (hopefully) receive a reply, follow the instructions. Whether it means making an appointment to talk in person with the professor or going to the department secretary, do so.

See what happens.

And to prevent this, take less popular classes? You can make friends with the professor an increase your chances of an auto-petition (likes you enough, he’ll bump you in regardless). It also depends on how your school handles registration. My school does by number of credits so as you take more, you get a better registration time.

Also I don’t know how your registration system works but I got into a full class I wanted by constantly checking the registration website and stalking the class. People often drop classes when they change their schedules around, and some people fiddle with their schedules up until the first day of class. These spots get snapped up though so you have to be quick and check a lot. This is especially true in large classes or ones with many different times.
