Tips on how to start a study group successfully?

For those who've had successful experiences with starting study groups in classes that are very large (i.e 100+ students), could you share any insight on how to be effective at starting one? I'm especially interested in making one that will meet longterm, instead of just once or twice before an exam. (Or does this sound like a stretch, i.e. is it your common experience that most people only want to come to study groups once or twice, and only before an exam?)

Thought I’d bump this

Are you aiming for a study group friendship like on Community? That’s the vibe I got. Haha
I would say that if you have a smaller group that you gravitate towards in a class that seems to be a struggle unanimously then try asking them if they would want to meet up weekly or a few times a week. Also, people within your major would be good too because then you could keep meeting beyond general courses.
