Tips on how to stop procrastination?

I'm a senior and I have serious procrastination problems where I'm always doing homework last minute... any tips to stay motivated and do homework and studying more?

Think of how your life is now during high school with your current procrastination. Now think of how your life will be during college with your current procrastination. Then despair.

Procrastination is the worst if you’re in college. I’m not in college yet, but I know a friend who’s struggling, because he’s a major procrastinator. I hear they only give mid-terms and tests at the end of the year with no homework. Yes, it might sound pleasant, but then imagine yourself procrastinating a year work of information into your head, right before the day of the finals. College is about scheduling your time, doing little things day by day. Plus that’s the least stressful too. Think about it though, would you prefer to always pull an all nighter doing homework, or would you want to finish early, and have more free time?

I use to be a procrastinator, due to the fact i’d get so distracted. I remember sleeping at 3 or 4 am everyday. But I learned to manage my time way more efficiently now. Here’s my tips:

1) STAY AWAY from any electronic device (phone, laptop, computer, Xbox, DS), anything you know that’s a distraction. Put all of them in a different room, (preferably a place where you’re too lazy to get them back), and don’t come getting them back until you’re done~

Oh but if you do need to use the computer, install apps that could be able to block websites that distract you. If you have google chrome, install “chrome nanny”, to block them. :3

2) Stay in a quiet place, with no distractions whatsoever.

3) Start your homework as early as possible

4) Plan out your schedule/ priority list, literally putting how long your going to take on each homework. Time yourself on how long you’ll take on your homework. For me, when I time myself doing homework, it gives me the challenge to get it done right before my timer goes off.

5) Set your mindset, and make finishing homework efficiently, a habit. Think of it like, work before play. You’ll go to hell first (doing homework), and once you’re done, you go to heaven (more free time~~) as your reward. discipline yourself. You’ll get a benefit too, because you organized your time, and plus at the end of the day you’re done with everything, and get to do what you want.

Oh and one more thing. You should watch this video, look it up on Youtube if you want: “Don’t eat the marshmallow” This video just shows giving away to self-indulgence doesn’t lead to a successful life. But if you have discipline, and patience, then you’ll be more likely to succeed.

Doing these tips really helped me out. Hopefully it will help you!

Thanks a lot for the tips. :)

1) get off CC
2) isolate yourself from anything interesting, trap yourself with your homework. You will be forced to do it

Used Chrome Nanny today for the first time. So helpful. I blocked sites that usually distract me and I was able to finish my APUSH homework with no distractions. I recommend that. Make sure you block CC lol

I have so much trouble with this. I get rid of all the distractions and sit at my desk and work for awhile…and then I just fall asleep in the chair. I’m not even tired. It’s like I’m programmed to wait until the last minute in whatever way possible. It’s frustrating.

I ALWAYS FALL ASLEEP ON MY DESK…omigawd it’s like i’m narcoleptic or something T.T It’s horrible, especially if you’re studying for finals.

LOL, but when I start feeling tired, I stand up and walk around holding my book so I don’t fall asleep xD.

I installed Chrome Nanny yesterday. Today, when it blocked me, I right-clicked and disabled it. :P

And same, asianeekamkee! Only the teacher sometimes gets annoyed with me for being ‘disruptive.’

Ideally, yes, but in practice college students become very effective procrastinators :P

Yah, I know a friend who goes to UC Davis majoring as an engineer. He tells me he procrastinates ALL THE TIME.

But I think it depends on the person. I think the person who’s a fast learner and loves the pressure is the one who succeeds as a procrastinator. x)

I don’t like procrastinating though, seems stressful. o.o
