Tips on Supplement?

Hey CC Users.
I am a senior international student living in Northern VA who will apply CMC by ED this fall.
I have had my on-campus interview 2 weeks ago and I have written the first draft of my supplement essay of advising leaders.
CMC is my perfect fit dream school and I hope to get admitted.

For the essay, I have chosen a founder/politician from one of the Asian nations.
I didn't really focus on his policy but on the flexibility/vision of that leader.

The problem is when I showed my essay to my friend who goes to UVA,
he told me while my essay has a creative format and good selection of leader, it seems to lack humor and is bit casual.

I am not really a funny writer, but a serious writer who writes from my heart.
I am really worried if I am going on a wrong direction.

Frankly speaking, I do not want to change my essay a lot but I will if it is necessary.
So I am wondering if any current CMC students or CC Users can give me advice/tips for this supplement essay.

Thanks,

Write your essay in your own voice. I know for a fact that humor is not a requirement for admission. I would expect that if you try to take on a style that isn’t your own that your essay will suffer. Getting feedback on your essays can be helpful but writing outside of your comfort zone will probably not advance you toward your goal. You might seek out the feedback of an English teacher or someone who is used to reviewing different writing styles. Your friend may be excellent and successful with his own style but you will probably not do well attempting to be his clone.
