tips on this as an essay topic

I was planning on writing my college essay about the library i attended that was destroyed during hurricane katrina. Is this something that is cliche and should be avoided. If not what tips would you suggest, and what pitfalls to avoid when writing. Thanks in advance

That has the potential to be a really good essay! But again, there are always pitfalls.
I think if you made it too sappy/overly emotional, then it wouldn’t be a good idea. A common pitfall with topics like this is that it can be easy to talk about the whole situation and describe what happened, and forget to talk about yourself (and how this played a role in your life). But if you can talk about how you felt, how it affected/influenced you, show who you are and your “passion” then it can be a great essay! Good luck :)

All right I will say this once and for all: You will not find a topic that is remotely new or fresh – what can be conceived has been conceived, what can be written has been written, what can be said has been said. It is not so much finding a brand-new, albeit non-existent topic, it is about finding a brand-new way to disect the topic, in the process showing the readers just how you think and act.

Tips? Figures of speech. Do not just bluntly state things out right; construct your sentences so that they are deep, metaphorical, and interesting.

I will not repeat things like “be jenuine,” “be yourself,” etc., as they are well-known to all anyway.

Good luck.

I wrote my intro, was wondering if someone would be willing to read it and let me know if they think i’m going in the right direction with this
