I would like to write an essay on my challenging life for college, some of which included heroin-addicted parents, father dying, abuse, foster care, etc... What should I do? Any ideas?

I’m sorry about how difficult you had it
If I were you I would focus on one of those events, and one particular moment in that event. Usually supplemental applications have an option for you to write about if anything challenging happened in your life, and you can include this rest there!

Who else agrees on that?

What if I were to write specifically about my parent’s drug usage and how it led to his death… I think that could eliminate some extras like abuse, foster care, and make it centralized on one topic.

@MathNScience If you could find some way to make it inspirational, or that you’ve learned some sort of lesson in the end, then go for it. Usually colleges look for experiences that enlightened you in some way

well , yeah that is what I want to talk about… what I’ve learned from it
