Mine reincarnate themselves as dirty dishes. I don't even get wire hangars...:(

And some of us don't even get the dishes...

back to the ironing thing, the best product anyone invented is that spray bottle of Wrinkle Release. When too lazy or too pressed for time(no pun intended), my boys spray that on, smooth out the wrinkles and go. It really does work and I sent a bottle to college with S1 this past fall.

I am going to copy and paste all the funny postings about students losing/forgetting things and show my clueless son to show him that he can't wait until college to learn how to manage his life and possessions.

shutter: Wrinkle release, that is great!!

This has to be one of the funniest threads I've ever read! I can really relate. S#1 came home from college with all clothes in a shade of pink!
This convinced me to have next 3 kids take over their own laundry at age 14, especially boys over 6'2" with multiple pairs of jeans, plus dirty sports clothes. Best decision I ever made! I do have one daughter who loses her cellphone or carkeys about once a week and is very scatterbrained. She goes off to college in the fall --hope she wakes up soon. Thanks, parents, for all the great tips.

Another vote for making kids do their own laundry. I got mad a few years ago and announced they were hereby responsible for laundry. Son did his on Mon and Thurs. Daughter did hers on Tues and Fri. When Son started playing high school sports, his went to Mon, Wed and weekend. We have had surprisingly few problems with pink laundry. Although He almost died when he put some of Her dance clothes into the dryer. After that, we added the rule that you had to take your own wet laundry out of the washing machine and put it in the dryer.

signed,
meanest Mommy in the school district, maybe the world

After a few laundry attempts, (clueless) 1st son worked out a deal with 2nd son. 2nd son puts clothes into washer and dryer and 1st son does all the folding and hanging up. While that may seem "fair", 1st son isn't getting the "experience" of sorting, determining water temp, checking for stains, etc. The wierd thing is that 2nd son doesn't want to occasionally "trade" chores; each son likes doing "his part" of their laundry. I know that I have to put my foot down and insist that each "switch" jobs for awhile so that 1st son can get the experience.

A tip: If you end up with a pink wash that hasn't been put into the dryer, rewash using RIT color remover with the hottest water that is safe for clothes. I always keep a few boxes on hand, just in case, because it is easier to remove the "pink" if the rewashing can occur ASAP. It would be a good idea for college kids to keep a box or two to "repair" a pink wash.

When people respond and they have a colored box which contains a quote from somebody else, HOW do they do that?

Kids and pink laundry? Could someone teach my unteachable husband about this? I gave up and bought the Shout dye-catcher sheets. He will at least throw one or two in the mixed color loads he does and the whites don't get quite so pink, blue, black, or whatever.

Just remove spaces inside brackets.

I taught my kids to do their own laundry when they were relatively young... I just got tired of figuring out whose socks were whose. We've never reached the refinement of choosing water temperature or removing stains. (We've learned not to buy white T-shirts since they always end up grey and stained!). My DS just throws it all in to wash, dries, then stores clothes in wrinkled humps in the laundry basket until time to wear them. Noone has accused any of us of being fashion plates, but at least we smell clean! :)

Anxiousmom:

My S figured out that clothes may not necessarily have to be clean to smell clean.

True story: His roommate owns a commercial steamer. I couldn't figure out for the life of me what it was when we dropped S off. (Neither one owns an iron or would know how to use it.) I learned that they put used clothes in the laundry baskets (dirty and wrinkled) and often "recycle" them in emergencies. In order to recycle, they just steam the wrinkles out, and spray the article of clothing with Fabreeze!!!

Yuck!!!!! :)

Disgusting!

Not sure that this practice will continue now that he has a steady gf...... :)
I hope not.

[did it work???] A "trial run" to test quoting [/did it work????????]

Ok now I feel totally stupid. First I tried to put a quote between the 2 sets of bracket -- it wouldn't post. Then tried a few other options -- wouldn't post. This last attempt posted, but not correctly. WHERE are you supposed to put the words to make a darker gray blue quote box that is seen on a few other posts?????

AND what spaces are to be removed????

Quilt: I'm glad that my unteachable husband has no interest in doing laundry. If he did, we'd all be wearing dull gray clothes
