Tips to choosing Profs

Hey Guys. So I was searching on some classes and teacher recommendations. However, some of the teachers I encountered are graduated TAs who are now teaching and I cant find any information/ratings on these new profs. Are new profs more difficult to learn from, strict, etc or is it the other way around?
Thanks and please leave behind your experiences if possible.

My experience is that an individual’s teaching talents are developed WELL before he/she becomes a professor. In the humanities, grad students have to TA to get funding. In the sciences, there’s a 1-1.5 year teaching requirement. At a research university like UCSD, making the move from grad student → professor doesn’t say anything about their teaching abilities, only that they know how to research and write papers/grants really well.

So what I’m trying to say is that these new professors are a mixed bag. Some are born teachers, others will suck no matter how many years they end up teaching. But generally the first year is the rockiest for new professors as they seek to balance everything out, although during this time they’re extremely open to [constructive!] criticism, so be nice and help them out!
