My 17 yo daughter is applying to Brandeis but is still nervous about the cross country distance from our West Coast home if she’s accepted. Ideas about how to give her confidence to take the Boston plunge from others who are also considering attending from West Coast? Can’t head home for the weekend, that’s for sure. Ideas welcome.

This isn’t exceptionally helpful but at least it’s at a hub - not hard to get to and from Logan if need be. Also, she would find that at a school like Brandeis, there are lots of other West Coasters.

West coast to East coast is only 5 hours-- the duration of 3 movies. It’s the same country, same cellphone network, same language, same currency, same shops, same TV shows. It’s not a big deal.

Haha, GMTplus7, you can tell us super-frequent international flyers by the fact that we don’t have a lot of patience for people who think flying is a big deal But seriously, OP - once someone’s on a flight, it doesn’t matter if the flight is 1 hour or 5 hours.

Not sure if my input will help…

My dd is a stones throw away & never comes home. So being close may not translate into lots of weekend visits. I’m sure if she were far away, she would miss me terribly.

I think the best thing would be to reassure her that there are plenty of kids there from the west coast, so she will have a support system. The kids my son and I met on the visits seemed very outgoing and approachable. Good luck!
