Tips to improve chances at Syracuse??

I really want to go to Syracuse Newhouse, its my first choice followed by Boston u and wsu. My intended major is Advertising. I am extemely intelligent but unfortunately hardships have affected my ability to translate that to my transcripts. Take a look at my info and let me know what you think:

Essay:

Really great, explains low gpa due to depression/family crisis.

Any sugestions on what to add/delete in the next 5 months? Do I even have a chance at those schools. Any feedback is helpful!

I can understand how hardships would make it hard to focus on schoolwork as it seems unimportant in relation to your troubles. The only advice I can offer is to use your hardships to work towards something better. Stay focused and with improvements, your goal can be reached. Good luck with everything.

Your stats look pretty ok, but I gotta say that newhouse porobably requires a higher gpa than 2.7

Yea life was really hard at one point but im doing my best to move past that. My gpa is my biggest concern, especially for newhouse, and it sucks because I have always been so intelligent. The good thing is it will be up to a 3.0 by spring quarter but not in time for the application deadline.

I have been searching for application candy to increase my chances, im all out of ideas.

Thanks for the input!

hey no problems, but hey, i didn’t think i was going to get into a&s with my 2.8 gpa in H.S…i’ve had my hardships too and you know what…you can really change things around in college. good luck!

I don’t think you can physically get into Newhouse with a GPA below 3.5. Transfer admission is totally objective based on GPA, and last year’s cutoff was 3.45 (college GPA), and it’s sure to be a little higher this year.

If your essay is extremely good, it can fill in the voids. I hate to brag but my essay was extremely good, authentic and indepth and it made up for one bad grade i got and some missing extra curriculars. Anyway your SAT’s are not bad so thats a good thing.
