bamagirls…thanks for pulling all of these together in one place.

Where are the tips on getting your DS to care about more than the electronics he plans to bring?? LOL

^^^On the page right after doing the laundry before you run out of clothes…lol

I have warned my son that he is NOT permitted to use the Amazon one day shipping to order clean clothing because he has not done laundry…LOL

^^Spoken like any good mother would…ROTFL.

I’m wondering what the repair charge for more than 4 nail/push pin holes is. That seems a rather unrealistic limit.

I agree about the push pin/nail hole limit. If the hole is very small, a little plain colgate toothpaste will fill it up and never be noticed. Or a small amount of beige paint and drywall spackle could come in handy during move out.

Looks like nail holes have a charge of $5.00 per hole over the limit.

http://housing.ua.edu/pdfs/DamageCharges2012.pdf

^^Probably a good idea to do a pretty close inspection for existing nail holes at move-in. Both so you don’t have to pay for them and maybe you can reuse them!

Question regarding boxes - are things such as an already boxed lamp or vacuum cleaner ok to just slap a room number sticker on or are we supposed to find larger boxes to put those types of things in?

It’s fine to leave those items as is and just label them.:)

Remember to pack some trash bags for all of the packing material. You’ll be asked to take it down the hall to the trash chute and break down boxes once you’re finished unpacking. I’m really excited for all of you!

I suppose (from earlier threads) there’s no hope of recycling our boxes and other recyclable materials?

There are recycling containers if that’s what you mean.

Or are you asking if you can save them for later? You can flatten a few boxes and store then either directly under the mattress or behind the head board…that’s what we’ve done.

I was asking if there is place to recycle them there. Can you tell me where the recycling containers are located? We are going to remove as much packaging as we can at home, so that we can recycle here and also to save space. Good idea to flatten a box or two - we’ll see what we wind up with.

^There are recycling bins located outside the Riverside Clubhouse. Not sure where else on campus they have them.

Don’t worry, that’s what Get on Board day/housing fairs are for. Whenever I run out of clean tshirts, a free tshirt event pops up to save the day. :)

My RA barely glanced around my room while checking me out. I hung Christmas lights, garland, pictures, and posters all with tacks, or tape that ripped paint off the wall, and they never said anything. It may not be worth the risk, but I can’t really see them charging unless there is a large hole from a nail or anything else that really affects the appearance of the room.

Remember to try to keep box for the TV, printer, type stuff to make for easier and more secure way of storing over summer. DS has kept the box and main part of styrofoam for his tv so less worry in transporting and putting in unit.

DS is bringing a bike. What is the best way to handle a bike during move in? Do we lock it in the residence hall bike rack that day?

That’s what I would do. If he’s living in RCS there are also vertical bike storage racks in the parking deck and a bike storage room on the fifth floor inside the north tower.:)

Can someone go over the tipping for the helpers during move in? I remember reading something about it.
