It happens...live with it...I know I'm an above average student, but in CC I'm the dunce basically, a got some good advice in my chances thread, I was hoping more but everyone seemed to be focusing on validating the over achievers to bother telling me anything...Oh well...it's like joining mensa...cept, you got to pay for Mensa

Yes, it seems as if only the people who list HYPS on the thread title get constructive criticism. However, it's just a fact of life that people on CC don't know half so much about Haverford as they do about Harvard.

Nothing we can do about it, for that is the nature of the beast :)

Why does it matter if people with amazing stats ask for chances? I got a 2350 on the SAT but does that mean I will be accepted into every school I apply to? Sure there are some ridiculous posts and unless it is some kid with 2400 SAT/4.0 GPA/president of multiple clubs/402039304823 hours of community service asking if he will get in a public school, why the hell does it matter to any of you?

Why does it matter when people try to validate? Why does it matter when people ask if a 2350 is good enough? It brings other people down. I mean, use freakin common sense. You got a 2350, you KNOW you have a good shot. So stop validating. I'm alright with those types of ppl who are like " I have a 2350 SAT score, BUT im lacking in this area..."
But it's just fcking annoying when ppl go "I only got a 720-730, should I retake?!"
Brings most people's esteem down and is prety much a way to show off.

Nice post "nyyben". I could have stated that far more bluntly, but I guess people like to take offense to everything now :(

Do you realize that 'most' people aren't trying to show off? It is your fault if you are lacking in something; others shouldn't have to hide their achievements because it might offend you.

hmm...what I wonder is if the college adcoms are on the same wavelength as us. What if they reject "all those 2300's" BECAUSE of the "effort" the applicants made to "make the college"?
Which is why I truly believe a B student can make Harvard. You dont need to be a 2300 SAT, you just need to prove that you have intelligence (real, none of that IQ crap.) and not useless knowledge.

Your chances are inversely proportional to how much time you spend on CC. In other words, stay away from this forum, and within 24 hours they will go up! Worked like magic for me.

not necessarily. Some people are almost paranoid that they won't get in anywhere because the media is all like "oh look college is sooooooooooooooo hard to get into if you don't have a 2400 SAT, straight A's, 15 AP classes, and a nobel peace prize under your belt".

well i think you all have some part of the reason, and yes some ppl do it because they REALLY feel insecure, but other just do it for bragging, and it DOES bring self steem down, for me, it made me cry!....

Warning: Use of CC may cause faintness, dizzy spells, shortness of breath, inability to speak for brief periods of time, feelings of frustration, explosive anger, carpal tunnel syndrome, compulsive eye twitching and or loss of muscle control, blindness or loss of vision, intense weight gain, paranoia, crippling loss of self-esteem, schizophrenia, and clinical depression.

Oh, and sexual side effects.

"You've been going for over 2 hours now, Joe."
"But there's a guy on CC who went for over 7! And HE said he was AVERAGE!"

These 2300+ kids with there 3.99999999999999999 GPAs... sometimes not even they get into Harvard. Maybe they want people to look at their extracirriculars...

But yea, for those, the only thing you can say is: good chance at blah blah blah. Because HPSY, MIT, Caltech are almost never guaranteed.
