i go to a private catholic school (its pretty small 200 students or so). Anyways I don't want to be mean or anything and I'm not trying to sound conceited by seriously my AP world teacher is awesome but he curves the grades too much in my opinion. I got 100 on the first test and 98 on the second test without the curve, but he curves the other kids grades and its just a little annoying because I worked hard for those grades. Anyways idk if anyone else feels that ever that its kinda unfair when someone understands it because they actually put some effort in the class instead of always complaining and crying.

Hey I feel you but think about the long term benefits: you’re gonna end up learning far more than your classmates, even if it means inequity in grading. When it comes to, say SAT Subject Tests, you’ll be much better off and show your real skill in a nationally standardized test. If the people around you aren’t worth comparing yourself to, as it seems like you’re implying, then don’t compare grades with them either.
(Trust me, I have to deal with the same problem too…)

Well, even with curved grades, you’ll still be near the top (i.e. a grading curve should be monotonic; a student who scored lower than you cannot score higher than you curved). Also, it’s not really worth worrying about other people’s grades.

-side eyes-

what is “side-eyes” please explain to me I dont get it @HeisAidanD

Why do you care? Doesn’t the curve benefit you as well? Do you just want to punish other students? Do you sweat blood and tears to get a good grade on a history test?

@Calchong >.> or >_>

If all you have to complain about is that a teacher, in your opinion, “curves too much,” then you need to reevaluate your life.

Does it really matter? It’ll pay off when you get a five on the AP test for trying so hard and they wont.

Ok thanks everyone I love being attacked and @ThatOneWeirdGuy it clearly doesn’t benefit me because I got a 100 and a 98 if you actually read my post
thanks for attacking me still

I’m sorry I guess I didn’t clarify this in the original post but the reason why I am so mad is because basically half the class are my friends and the others are cheering for me to do badly. For example, I got a 98 on the last test and some people cheered right in front of me that I didn’t get 100. On the first test some people were talking bad about me (it came back to me) that people were taking sh** that I got a 100 it’s just really really annoying and it hurts that because I do well, people want me to do badly so that the teacher will curve the tests more.

@Calchong no one is attacking you, we’re just trying to help out. If they’re going against you for getting good grades, why are you showing them your grade? You don’t have to show them that you did better, just ignore when they ask.

i didnt show them that i got that grade, when the teacher came over and gave me my grade they all ran over and looked at it… they are a little obsessive over peoples grades @teyrkis

@Calchong I would personally speak with the teacher before or after class and explain your situation. Ask to receive the test before or after class. If you’re being harassed by your classmates because of your grade, this shouldn’t be a problem.

@Calchong I wasn’t attacking you…? Nor was anybody else lol. I just asked you questions, so did other people, and some just disagreed with you. Nobody is attacking you. Yes, I did read your post, but it nonetheless benefits you, because if you get a lower score, it will boost it, and probably still be a 100 post-curve.

You didn’t explain the peer pressure in your original post, so I didn’t know that was the problem. Like someone else said, you’ll get a 5 on the AP exam, nobody else will. Them hating you for your own success is obviously ■■■■■■■■, so think of it like this: Why do you care about opinions of you that come from people like that?

@thatonewierdguy yes um my teacher doesn’t give me above 100 I’m stuck there they aren’t allowed to give us extra points so it’s like really against me

@Calchong He never said about getting extra credit (above 100) he said that even if you get a low score, you’ll get a score that will be around 100%.
