BaySweet…I am sure our kids will meet. I am confused…is the Cap21 building for classes near the NYU housing? Are all those different named buildings considered part of the ‘dorms’? Don’t you have to apply to each individually? Did you find another guy looking for a roommate?

I think the school can best answer questions about the actual dorms themselves as well as the availability. Everytime I called with questions regarding the program, they have been extremely helpful. Also, I believe the age cutoff is 17, not 18. My D will turn 16 in July so our only option was to provide our own housing.

NYU dorms are located in a neighborhood called “Greenwich Village” and CAP 21 is located on 18th street in a neighborhood called “Chelsea”. The distance between them is roughly one mile if you end up getting into campus housing. 20 city blocks = one mile. I would still check availability and perhaps they have a waiting list for on campus housing.

If not:

This page gives a couple of housing alternatives.

Hope this helps!

Yes, the age cutoff is 17. They are VERY firm about that. I’m going to be attending the program this summer and i turn 17 half way through, so i’ll be staying in the dorms for only the last three weeks.

Just an FYI, the age cutoff I was referring to in an earlier post was for the application process, online v. hard copy. It had nothing to do with the required age for housing.

flady, the dorms I mentioned earlier are just a few of the ~25 different dorms that NYU has. All that I mentioned are within walking distance of CAP21. One thing that kids get used to very quickly in Manhattan is walking. From the Washington Square dorms, it is less than a mile to CAP21, it isn’t 20 blocks. Rubin would be even closer. Have a look at the housing website map page and it will give you a good idea of where each dorm is located.

Also, on the summer housing site, you can see a copy of the application and what you need to fill out. It is pretty clear on how you apply and which dorms are open for summer housing, etc. You do not apply separately. The process is actually quite easy, it’s just that you’re late in the game, although it appears that they are still accepting applications.

It does say they are still accepting applications. Good luck!

Thanks to all…is it me or are these housing people difficult? I cannot get ANY info.
not even if there is availability. I have to wait two days for an i.d. number just to even apply! The alternate housing is so far away from campus it doesn’t make me comfortable.
Does anyone know someone going who is looking for a roommate to an already assigned room? I understand that may be one approach. To name a roommate?
My S. is one of the funniest and has a killer personality (but then I am his mom)…
He would be the first to buy clorox to clean a shower and though not a neat freak, he truly has a gift of laughter and fun.
Any other recommendation would be helpful…
Thanks.

Another thanks for info on when we’ll hear about the Tisch summer program…

I would totally be up for a roommate, but i’m a girl…hahaha so that doesn’t work

according to older posts (from last year), the email was sent to everyone April 7th…so probably next week?

I had a student apply to the Tisch program two cycles ago and she heard the last week of April.

hopefully they stay true to their statement this year… “early April,” which hopefully will not mean the last week!

I have a couple questions. My D was accepted to Interlochen and Cap 21 still waiting for NYU/Tisch. She is a sophmore only 15 will turn 16 late May. How many kids usually in Cap 21 summer program? I have found housing at the New School because she can’t stay in the dorms under 17 for NYU. Is there anyone still looking for housing in Cap 21? Has anyone on this thread had a similiar situation? The New School assures me they have housed students
for Cap 21 in the past. Can anyone comment? She prefers Cap 21 because of NYC. Any comments on the two programs. This is my first post so I apologize if these questions have been addressed before. She is so excited to go to NYC. Thanks!!

Mom-mom,
Congrats on your D! My D is also attending CAP 21 as a rising junior. I have heard that most of the younger kids do stay at the NEW School dorms because of the age restrictions at NYU. The great thing about staying in the dorms is that the kids get to bond a lot quicker and they usually travel and eat together. My D will be commuting since we have lots of family and friends near by and she knows the city like the back of her hand for the most part. My D started her own post for CAP 21 kids to start conversing with one another under “bwaysweetie”. I think the post is “CAP21 summer 09”. A few of the kids are already talking to eachother daily. Anyway I had heard the program accepts around 60-65 but the more experienced posters can probably give you a more exact number.

…this isn’t for THAT cap21, but for NYU/Tisch’s CAP 21, you wouldn’t have to worry about housing, it’s included and handled through their own office. I emailed them since I’m also a rising junior and won’t be turning 16 until late September.

I have a D a sophmore who is only 15 so she can’t stay in the NYU dorms. The New School does have housing and you can give them a call. They do house Cap 21 students.
The phone is 2122295450 extension 3610. Cap 21 is a mile away. Hope that helps.
