Tisch/ CAS

THis has probably been asked, but I don't have time to search the archives right now, sorry.
Can I get rejected from Tisch (for film) and still accepted into NYU? Does this happen often?
Any other info would be good, thanks.

Actually, no, it never happens because you can only apply to one NYU college. If you're rejected from Tisch, you would have to wait one year before applying again, either to Tisch or to CAS or to any other NYU college.

matth is correct ... if you are rejected from tisch you are rejected from nyu

No, sorry, you are both wrong. You can be rejected from Tisch and offered a place in the General Studies program at CAS if you have very strong academics. You can then audition (or apply) after Freshman year as an internal transfer.

Wonderland: General studies is not part of CAS, it's part of SCPS. hth.

Whoops, you're right.

Yep, and thus the answer to the original question is "NO". It's not possible to get into CAS and not Tisch, though it is possible to do Tisch via GSP. Also, I don't think you can apply to GSP, they basically have to offer you a spot.

I think that was what the OP wanted to know, as they didn't say CAS specifically, so the answer is "yes". GSP students are selected from the pool of applicants from all schools at NYU, you cannot apply to the program. The info on their site says that you must complete 2 yrs. before being allowed to transfer. I would call them because my roommate freshman year auditioned for Tisch and didn't get in, but was able to re-apply the next year and got in.

I've been told by Tisch Student Affairs that applicants can no longer be rejected by Tisch and accepted by GSP. Apparantly they are changing the way that GSP is run. I apologize for providing incorrect information and encourage anyone to call Student Affairs if they have questions. (212) 998-1900

i know a brand new freshman that applied for film and is in gsp

Well, wonderand said that it's been changed now. The current few freshman film students who are in gsp will be the last.
